Looking at buying an on board charger. I want a 3 bank and from what I read specs say with big marine batteries use a 10 amp. Looking at Minnkota MK-330D (3 Bank). What do you use ?

I have a ProMariner 12/2 that has been a good charger and charges mine overnight just fine. That MinKota is a good charger.

Mine is just a 2 bank minkota 210 , 10 amp with 5 amp/circuit- fully auto onboard that has been good for 10 yrs.

NoCo Genius,,,, 3 bank charger,,, 10 amp per battery, only $266...., find them on eBay or Amazon,,,,great product and great reviews. ,Had mine now for 2 seasons with no problems,,,
330-d .... if it will put a charge back by morning for pullin cranks, its alright in my book.

i use 315 d minn kota no problems so far
Minnkota 315D. I replaced a Promariner that said "waterproof" but wasn't. Minnkota actually had a problem with ONE of the banks going out, not charging.........and Minnkota replaced it bammo, whammo. Never one hiccup since. 315D charges fast enough for almost any fishing trip.
Dual pro chargers 3 bank 15 amp awesome charger! It charges my batteries over night easy from pulling cranks a good 6+ hours solid
I tried the BassPro brand for a while. I don't even know the brand I ended up with. But, I bought it from Art's. It is doing it's job. Now if I could just keep from buying TM batteries every year. DP
I like a charger with a slower rate of charging. The slower the charging rate, the cooler the battery stays and you'll get a longer battery life that way. The good chargers roll over the charging amperage to the weakest batteries as each battery becomes fully charged. Your cranking battery usually stays stronger than your trollers because the engine helps keep it charged when it's running. The amps that are used to charge the cranker then roll over to the trollers, and so on. With a 10-15 amp per bank charger, the weakest battery in this chain get up to 45 amps of charging on a 3 bank charger when the other two batteries are fully charged causing the weakest battery to become even weaker over time.
Minn kota 2 bank. Used it for 2 years. Fast charging and no problems.
I have 2 Dual Pro Chargers, also called Pro Series chargers, for 4 batteries. They have been awesome. This is the brand that comes with most new major brand boat manufacturers, Stratos and Ranger I know for sure. One of mine is 11 years old and never a problem, and as I understand it they are also repairable. My best friend has had 2 Minn Kota 3 bank chargers, both of them have gone bad on one of the 3 banks. Minn Kota didn't do anything to help because they were out of warranty by a few months, and they aren't repairable. The Dual Pro Chargers are very heavy duty, I don't know what they weigh exactly but they are certainly not light weight.:twocents
330D for me unless you have maintenance free batteries. If so use 315D.
I don't want to hijack the thread with another question. But, sense it is CA, so what:Rofl. BRM, your last post has me thinking. My battery is not a year old. It didn't perform right last trip. I remember it charged "funny" too. I checked the water levels and found one cell had some kind of white stuff in it and it is dry. Could it be from over charging as you say? It is a blem battery and the blemish could have caused a leak in the casing. That is my thinking anywho. DP

I've had a few that leaked through a hole in the case. Most had been dropped hard or a screw in the tray rubbed through. If it leaked at the warehouse I'm sure they wouldn't have sent then out. Over charging can boil the battery and causes them to loose water/acid, but you can usually see that around the caps. Batteries also get coated with (don't remember the term) crud in the plates. Some chargers can restore or de crud them. I haven't had much luck with that tho. Don't know about the white stuff in that cell you mentioned, but might be that crud stuff.Quote:

I think so also there great chargers! Its all we use on towboats. I like the 3 bank 15 amp especially for really big batteries. They recommend at least 15amp to charge the bigger batteries.Quote:
