I want to go out there sometime...nice fish!
Regards
I thought all that lake was good for was sailing.
Looks like I thought wrong.
Is that the lake where the world record was caught ? Those are some pigs !
Those are huge!
Epic!
That long growing season pays off.
Thnx for the comments
this week is desert storm - tunnel boats are racing, they say they get up to 200mph. Got to watch a few while we were fishing they were pushing at least a 100mph...
I think the last 3 world records have come from this lake. Probably a lot of line class records are broken also..
Long season + Quagga mussel & crawdads. Amazing place for some prehistoric fish - with zero pressure. Huge REs, Northern strain BG, and monster Gillcrackers.

What's the name of lake? Where is ? Packing my bags - on my WAY!
Those are some quality fish...looks like a ton of fun!
Wow! Must have been a challenge to get them on 2 lb line. Takes skill.
Again.......................Fantastic Work Led!
We spent several weeks in Lake Havasu when we were RVing. The original London Bridge was sold to Lake Havasu when they replaced it. It was numbered by parts, and shipped to the USA. It was reassembled and now crosses a causeway to an island which has shops on it. If I remember correctly, they built the bridge first, then dug the canal under it creating the island.
One of you natives correct me if I am wrong, but that is what I remember. My fishing buddy that I fish with in Oregon lived in Lake Havasu until a few years ago. He sold his house there and moved full time to his home on the Oregon coast.
I took this in 2005. I did not know then that the fishing was so good or I would have tried it. Thought some folks would find this interesting, I had no idea until we visited Lake Havasu. It is a beautiful place to live and play.

located Arizona / California border south I-40
Awesome! truly amazing .:cheers2
blackfish - Havasu is north east of us - we fish the southern part of the lake. The area SeaRay is posting about is north in Havasu City. I have not fished that area and that is where the world records are coming from. In "05" the crappie fishing was really good - strippers have decimated them. The bass - especially smallmouth fishing is very good. BGs, REs, and Gillcracker fishing is phenomenal!
Thnx Locator79
Olegiller - Really need a solid drag and good rod to fish 2lb. izorline is incredible and affordable. We also use Yo-Zuri hybrid, cast great , but breaks closer to 6lb. Goal is a world record on 2lb - with a jig that I tyed. Downside with the 2lb is that I get smoked at least once or twice a trip out there.
Hola Brett - imagine running into you here. Haven't posted in "a long minute" on this site. Let me know when you want to latch on to some real hogs or the infamous Lake Perris Coppernose.... LOL
eagle - amazing is understatement. I tied my PB RE (2lb13oz from last year) on the 2nd fish I caught. The 1st fish I hooked ripped off 20 yards of line before it broke off. Got my new PB (3lbs8oz) the following evening. And can't forget the BGs, Hybrids, or smallmouth!!!!
My gosh that has to be fun catching those RE. Huge !!!
What kind of rod and reel do you use to tackle the large bg and re you target?
Good God where are you catching those things, down stream from a nuke plant? rotfl
Wife and I come to Blythe couple times a year on business. Next time I'm coming to fish. Thanks I'll look you up. Gas bait breakfast lunch and dinner on me.
VaCrappieMan - Used mostly 2 rod combos with the jig fishing;
Trapara - TP662LX 6'6" rated 3-8lb with a Quantum PT 10 Energy and a GLoomis G2 7' 1pc. rod with a Quantum PT 10 Tour reel. Both combos are spooled with izorline XXX 2lb. test line. I was using 1/32nd custom poured football jig, Eagle Claw Lil' Nasty #6 hook, tyed Automatic style.
Lupinus - fish eat year round and got a bunch to eat!!!
blackfish - you're ~90 min, from where we fish. Half way point (I'm in Riverside) for us when we are heading up there. We stay in Parker - buddy keeps his boat there - or we stay at Havasu Springs. You do know about the heat - right????? Surprised you haven't fished Lake Perris - has big crappie and nobody fishes for them....
Man those are some thumpers! Please elaborate a little more about your terminal tackle. Are you dragging the football jig on the bottom like a bass angler? What is automatic style. Man, I need to catch a toad like that. I have caught a few over a pound and they fought good. I can't imagine a 3+ pound redear!
Hey Matt - Pretty much the same as fishing for bass. The worms we use (African nightcrawlers) are conditioned (fed secret diet), nose hooked, and bounced across the bottom. These worms are huge - I pick out the smaller ones.
I had a Do-it mold ported out to make an ultra light 1/32 football head. Was pouring #8s - this season started using more of the #6s - going up to #4 for Lake Havasu. Auto style is two rubber legs on each side with four rubber strands and crystal flash for the tail. Thread body. I use glow powder paint and UV materials also. The pattern on chub style jigs is murder on big Bluegill. We use reptile rubber for the appendages.
My buddy Keith has 3 REs over 3lbs mounted and his PB is 4.1lbs. The average BG & Hybrids at Havasu is probably around 1.5lb. On this trip we fished 3 four hour sessions and I caught 3 REs over 2lbs. Keith caught just as many but the 3.5lb RE was BFOD for the trip.
dbd - absolutely, My friend Keith raises some excellent bait. I'm trying with so-so results, still a cricket fan (but when in Roman....).
These are the jigs (2 on the right) I was using. All that was left - they are tyed on FB heads poured with Matzuo # 8 hooks. The 3 on the left were just tyed for the photo. The hooks are EC # 6 hooks. Just finished a batch (the jig patterns I ran out of) - # 4s with 1/32nd and 1/24th heads. Custom powder paint for the brown and orange. The other 2 color patterns are solid glo red and diamond black & glo pink.

Nice looking jigs. I may have to imitate those and give it a shot. Thanks!
