Favorite Jig head for soft plastics?

I have started losing confidence in my go to. Love the minnow heads from Bass Assassin I can find at Academy, but the hook is really small. Also, the 1/16s look no different from the 1/32s, so if they get mixed up(mine did) you really don't know which you're using.

Strike King has some lightweight heads with larger hooks, but they are round head and quite pricey. I see some sickle hook minnow head stuff on eBay, but never used those before. I guess I'm just looking for suggestions, or comforting words re: my missing of bites lately.

Sickle hooks work very well! As far as jig heads, I have used both different styles (round and minnow) and didn't notice a huge difference. The minnow does seem to flutter down where the round just goes straight down. In my experience color seemed to be more important than style, make sure you have some pink ones! Those have done the best for me in all different water conditions.

Check the Arkie Jigs website....they have some good jigheads

Been seeing lots of pink talk. Will try to find some Garland in hot lips to try out beside my standards of Blue Ice/Monkey Milk/Cajun Cricket.

I was catching some the other day on Monkey Milk. Reached in the bag and grabbed the Opening Night bag instead. Figured, this will work. Did not get a bite on the first two casts and it made me anxious and fish too fast. Just had to change back.

Lol JR,,,, I would have tossed that one a long time ago. I'm assuming the tail used to be chartreuse?

Like PM said It's all about the confidence you have in the bait I used to have to have a hot pink or blaze orange head now most of the time I use unpainted

PMantle, I order my jigheads from Bobo Greybeard. He has an ad page under the Sponsor section of the main forum. Very nice guy. Has almost any size and style of jighead a man could ask for. And, he pours them after you place your order. He will make sure you get what you want too. I have ordered a few hundred jigs from him just recently. They come unpainted, but I have found that a little fingernail polish works great. You can get almost any color imaginable and it takes no time at all to paint them.

I wash them first in acetone to remove any oily residue. Then I put 2 coats of a color on the jig and top that off with 2 coats of clear. I think they look great and so do the fish. PM me your mailing address and I'll send you a few. I have 1/16 minnow-head and 1/32 round-head.

Get set up to pour your own heads. Will recoup your money in less than a year. Lead lasts forever. ( Can get 1,000ct box of hooks for around $30-$50. I'd steer clear of a sickle. Very small barb causes a lot of fish to come off.
I use 1/0 and 3/0 hooks in 1/4 and 3/8oz heads. Sohumi is a good shank

Sickle hooks work great for me. I can't imagine what a crappie jig looks like on a 3/0 hook with a 3/8 head. Thats what I use for redfish.

Buy mine on line and powder coat them. Black, Pearl white, red, chanteuse and PANK. PANK is my favourite with a bluegrass tube. I like a 2 or 4 red sickle hook. They do have a small barb but have good hook set and are very sharp. I open the hook just a little and eem to get a better set to the roof of the mouth.

Oh yea. Rarely do I put a hook in the water without a nibblet; even with shiners.

to each there own i guess. i like jig rig prefer unpainted jig heads for the most part. the lighter the better under most condtions for me. also have never used a crappie nibblet but sure that work just dont think i need too. that being said what i use in early spring in cold , dirty water is night crawlers on jig . i just break then up in about half inch pieces , not enough to take away from jig but enough to give a little flavor under tough conditions.

that being said color jig, whether pink, yellow , unpainted shape and weight of jig head etc kinda changes from place to place. what makes sense for me makes much less since per se at Darbonne. Grenada and parts in between. same goes with color of jig , there is no right and wrong and althought i mainly fish with just a couple colors water color and other conditions effect what i fish with. Another example is southern Achafalaya basin. all the normal colors work well there but day in day out you cant beat something that resembles a crawfish. thats the main food

again no right and wrong other people catch lots of fish on colors etc that I look and and say that i say makes no sense.

If W tells ya a chicken dips snuff you can check under his wing....

I tried the nibblets. Not only did I not get more bites, I got bothered more than usual by bream too small to take the jigs.
