800? That's 1.1 fish every minute for a full 12 hours.
I average 3 to 4 crappie a min. At times I do not cast just flip so I do not have to reel :-) It is easy to get 100 an hour all day long! I have landed over 200 in an hour many times!
Roger
I just want to see if other crappie areas have the numbers the Pacific nw has. Some people have landed over 1000 in a day (clicker used to keep track of numbers)!
ExBassGuide; The only way I can see you doing this is that you have a crappie stocking pond and you are using a fishing seine of some type. I don't even average catch that many minnows an hour with a casting net.
72.
Me and a buddy got over 150 in a day and we thought we were gods!
Apparently compared to the fisheries you guys have we are bottom feeders. Dang
And I was happy catching a limit of 25! 😢
:popcorn
52 in two and a half hours .
Best day ever was around 100. Average day is between 25 and 50. Can't imagine catching 800, at that point I might think "well I have this all figured out time to move in to another species" lol.
please please please post a video of you catching 100 crappie in an hour...please. i can't even do that good running a fiddler
3 or 4 crappie a minute?!!! it takes me 2 minutes to get the hook out when i am lucky enough to catch one of my few and far betweens. say 3 a minute, that's flip, reel in fish and release fish every 20 seconds...that's unbelievable.
I havent fished for numbers in several years. I had lots of 100-150 fish days when that was the aim. Nowadays I am after the bigguns, and am happy if I catch 10-15 thumpers.
I had a lot of 100+ days. But never 100 IN A hour.... but last summer a friend and I kept 60 in 3 1/2 hours. I thought that was pretty good.
Best day for me was year before last about this time of year & I kept a 30 fish limit in 2.5 hours. Not counting throwbacks. Not sure how many total was caught but I was putting the boat on the trailer 2-1/2 hours after I launched it. I rarely limit out so this was a exceptional day for me.
Best day I can remember in while, we (2 people) caught 60 in one hour longline trolling. We quit after this hour and all fish were released. Not sure how many we could have caught that day. These were all 11"+ fish. Think I would get burnt out catching 800 a day... I like size over quantity most of the time now.
I don't have a clue, never kept track.
So the size of the crappie is not as big as the rest of the USA. The size limit on this lake I fish is 10 fish over 9 inches. I few years back when I was guiding I could get a few hundred crappie all about 1lb 8oz. The day I got 800 in one day I only landed 45 that were keeper size. You guys have bigger crappie than we do out west. Last fall I landed 3,000 crappie, last year I landed 4000 in the fall. I think we could have the best fishery in the USA for numbers and I am trying to see if that is true or not.
THANK to every one posting!!!!
Keep it up!

Roger

Biggest Fish::D
White Crappie 1 pound 14oz
Black Crappie 1 pounds 12oz
So which is it 3 lbs or 1 lb 14 oz is your biggest crappie??:scratchhead
I have not been on this forum for several years and I have not updated my signature or the bigger crappie!
Thanks!
Roger
Troll?
Are you using a special bait(jig etc.) or are they just that many fish in your lakes in Oregon that they eat everything up like piranhas fish.
The lake is 3000 acres and the crappie move back into some canals to winter over and there are TONS of fish in there. The lake has a ten fish and Nine inch limit. Every year the crappie numbers and overall size gets better! The lake is no deeper than 10 feet and the lake has lots of stumps and brush. It's a good bass lake too! You could get 1000 crappie in a day If you wanted to work that hard or 1000 perch or 500 blue gill around a pound.
As for baits I love trout magnets in bright colors, the water is a bit off color. I use a small bobber with a single jig. I like to twitch the bobber to get the fish to bite.
Roger
Roger have you tried or done this on other lakes? Or is this the only lake it has been done in?
On this side of the USA, we don't care too much about "numbers" unless they're big enough to keep. IMHO
I don't know as I'd even enjoy catching 800 fish just to get 45 "keepers" .... and were I to get into action that hot and wasn't catching many over the 9" size limit, I'd probably move to another spot and look for bigger fish. But, that's just me.
Best I've ever done in one day was 30 Crappie (daily limit) @ around 1.5-2lbs avg. casting a Roadrunner on Barkley Lake. Best day for sheer numbers, but no size .... probably around 60-70 ... out of one tree on a local lake of about 3000 acres. But, since they weren't keeper sized fish, I moved on to other spots to look for bigger fish.
... cp :kewl
We have a lake on the east end of the state that puts out bigger Crappie and good numbers, Maybe around 200 a day per person.
Silver Lake that I fish all the time could have the best crappie fishing in the world for numbers (not sure yet!)
The lake has a great food supply and as the fish are getting bigger ever year and the number are still growing this could be a much better crappie lake
Like I said I have landed over 400 crappie over a pound and a half in a day, that sounds like a quality lake! The lake has quality crappie and it is getting better every year.
Right now it's a great lake to take the kids! and If you know what you are doing you can load the boat with good quality crappie!
Okay We will take the title best crappie fishing in the world........for numbers:ThumbsUp (The last day I got 800 in a day the average size was 8.5 inches, some bigger some smaller but 8.5 inches was the average.):biggrin
I would probably say that you may have the most or best numbers and you have caught more than I will ever catch. Now not to bust your bubble, but with almost any animal when you overpopulate it they can not get the food to grow to the bigger size in the greater numbers. We have experienced this with animals such as deer and other animals. It is not even good to stock small ponds with crappie as they will overpopulate it quickly and they will be smaller in size. You may have the numbers but I would say that your crappie size as far as the size of the most caught will be lacking.:twocents Another question is with that kind of numbers why the 10 fish and 9 inch slot limit?
i was BA when had 12:Rofl:Rofl:Rofl
Best day Father's Day last year my boy and I got our limit 30 each 9" and over largest was 2 at 16-1/2 that he caught Its always a good day when your kids out do you.
60 fish (2 person lmit) in 2 hrs long line trolling...all QUALITY fish. Lake Eufuala Al.
Forever on the hunt for SLAB crappie...
During this hard water season from the hours of 3PM to 6PM I C&R 137 crappies. Our best fish house C&R catch during the season for two guys was 100 fish in one hour.
It was a fun hard water season.
