Lake Wylie Saturday 4/11 and Sunday 4/12

Was joined by Crappiekrazy and friend Billy (and Jack) for a crappie trip on Wylie. We launched at Nivens landing about 7am. I had gotten minnows the night before but they were all dead by morning. Bait was busting right in front of the ram and even tho I never had much luck there we decided to try longlining. The bite was good right from the start as long as we held close to 12' depth. Any color jig tipped with a dead minnow worked. So did jigs alone. We went to Torrance Creek and the bite was still good. Tried Big Allison and only picked up a couple. A short trip, this morning for a few more and the total was 46 kept crappies, 7 channel cats 2 largemouth and 3,,,, maybe 4 thousand white perch. Also a half dozen or so yellow perch, bigger than I normally see on Wylie. Great trip.

Man what a great trip! Thanks for the invite Gary, we really enjoyed it. You forgot to mention the most unbelievable part of the trip. Yesterday morning we watched a guy back his pontoon boat in the water, unload and then drive off in his boat. He left his truck/trailer sitting in the water as he drove clean out of sight. About 20-30 minutes later we see him coming back. I was thinking maybe he was going to load it back up but no! He makes a run right through the NO WAKE ZONE to the end of Nivens creek at half throttle, turns around and back out of the creek again and out of sight. The kayak fishermen were giving the thumbs up the whole time! (or maybe it was another finger) Meanwhile, his rig is blocking one of the two ramps and it was still sitting there when we left! I hoping he just didn't know any better. As apposed to the alternative, which is he is the biggest a$$ in SC! Thanks again Gary. Fresh crappie fillets are on the menu tonight!!

Nice catch guy's. I loved the story about the man leaving his truck at the ramp. That would have been worth the trip right there.

A fine tale of the fishing trip, the camaraderie, and the fine looking meal after reaping the rewards of the trip. Congrats to all!

I don't know how many have been here for a long time, like since this board was launched, but in the old days a topic of conversation often contained a reference to ones crappie fishing acumen. One sign of a newbie was "lifting a netter", resulting in loss of a nice fish. You can't imagine how much it pains me to reveal than my good friend Crappiekrazy was guilty of just that particular offense this past weekend. Yep, a lift, a bounce off the side of the boat and keeper crappie disappeared below the surface of the lake. This was second in seriousness only to using a green light while nightstalking:yikes

LOL! I had 2 fishing buddies in the boat with me and I was supposed to net my own fish?? I did try to rush it, but in my defense, we were getting awfully close to that dock, and I was the guy running the trolling motor!

Crappiekrazy did leave a note on the windshield. It mentioned not blocking the ramp and obeying the "no wake" zone. Then he went on the make a comment about fishing. I think the phrase "dum bass" was used :)

Thanks for the report. Been thinking about giving Nivens a try long-linning. Crowders is nice but longer trip up lake. Nivens is narrow like Crowders if I remember correctly. if I am correct where you took that pic in Torrance. Their is a dock where you are at with some brush and great place to hit crappie.

We were pretty far back in Torrance. Past the real big house on the left. Started at the cove with the bright colored (yellow?) boat house.

LOL. I have forgot to put my plug in a couple of times, I have never forgot to park my trailer. I'm sure he just didn't know any better. Probably a new boat owner. He will learn boat ramp etiquette and what those bouys that say "NO WAKE" mean.. (I hope)
