Researching and looks like they won,t be capable????? to talk to one another with these updates:mad:
- With the system powered on, unplug the Ethernet cable from the back of the unit.
- Reset the unit back to factory default with following steps:
- From any view press the MENU button twice to access the Main Menu then press the RIGHT cursor key until the Setup tab is selected.
- Press the DOWN cursor until Restore Defaults is highlighted on the Setup menu.
- Use the RIGHT 4-way cursor control key to initiate restoring defaults.
- The Confirm dialog box will appear. To reset the defaults, press the RIGHT cursor key once more.
- To cancel Restore Defaults, press the LEFT cursor key.
- Power the unit off and then plug the Ethernet cable back to the unit.
- Power the unit on again and confirm if the Network tab is available in the Main Menu System.
Might gives this a try.
no good either
Try disconnect the Ethernet cable and swapping ends with it ...
Sounds weird ... But who knows ...
If that doesn't work you may have to back into the older software and then down load a fresh copy of the newest ...

Is it necessary to have a cable hooked up to even get a network tab on a unit ??
found a SPOT in cable- going to try different one, maybe its bad? Will update later.
The other unit(s) also have to be powered on or the first unit will not know it is Ethernet connected to anything.
Greg, ricky, anyone! new cable connected still no networking tab. 858c and a 998si. can't back into old version because i don't have them on sd cards. IDEAS?

Try disconnecting the Ethernet cable again ...and then Restore Defaults in both units ...
Then power OFF both units and reconnect the Ethernet cable ...
If this doesn't work ... We may have to find out what versions originally came on the units ...

You got the pro's helping you on this.... but I thought I read on the update page with the new updates a warning that both units must be running the same version or networking will be lost...
no good rickie- the last updates that were in units were 858c=v6.57 and 998csi=v6.60
have heading direction puck on 998 and terrova with built in transducer on 858.
the 2 newest updates look the same with the adding of jig mode on the si unit.
what , if any thing will it hurt to update units with same version?
may be internal problem???

Unofficial Humminbird Side Image Forums www.sideimageforums.com - Index page you can go here to download older versions, you will have to register. You will have to install a older version then reinstall the new one. I would try to download 6.60 and 6.57 that was on the unit before the problems started, then check for network tab before installing newest version
Each unit will only recognize an update file designed specifically for that model number ...
(You can't load software for an 859 into a 998... It won't read it) ...
Do you know the original versions that were in each unit ... ??

There is a "line in the sand" version that required both units to be above (or below) for networking ...
What changes were included in Humminbird Software versions 6.640 and 6.680
Rickie
talked with hb support- they e-mailed me 6.810 and 7.090, backed into them and then reloaded fresh updates= no good either. have mac address- no IP address, reads all gps,temp- no tab for ethernet.

A 6 and a 7 verizon won't talk. Both units will have to begin with a software version that begins with the same number. Correct me if I'm wrong Rickie.j
word from hb. send them in , will fix it. Not gonna do that right now boat not that long! LOL. FEESHES TO CATCH.
