Need help finding a new lake house Please

Long story short, just found out my wifes mother sold the 'family' lake house (in Soap Creek) to the other side of the family because the other side didn't want to share it. Well her mom can't deal with conflict of any kind and immediately folded without telling any of the siblings that she had sold it. Before my wifes grandpa died last year he told me that he was leaving the lakehouse to his two daughters so ALL his grandkids and great grandkids could continue to enjoy the lake and the family memories. So much for his request I guess.....

With that said, I've decided I want to continue taking my kids to the lake (that they love) and create new family memories. If anyone knows of any lake front property for sale at a good price, with or without a house, please let me know. Most interested in anything between Gravois, Laurie, Rocky Mount etc etc. Thanks!

Just me maybe, but I wouldn't waste my time with explanations because these people knew exactly what they were doing. Move on, move forward.....if it were me, I think I would get completely away from that bunch.....different lake? different arm of the lake?

You're right - some I will allow to explain because I HAVE to, the others will just get a severe tongue lashing as my final words to them. Ever. If they didn't want to share, then they should GTFO. It is what it is I guess. What's done is done at this point...

Key to this is - It is an In-Law Deal. Up to your wife to deal with her family. Maintain a low profile and move on to a new place of your own elsewhere. Smile a lot. Less B.S., hate, discontent, stress. No immediate gratification from confronting the offenders but MAJOR gratification knowing you no longer have to deal with those who caused the heartburn. You can invite who you want to YOUR place and NOT invite those you don't want.
Take your time and look around a lot, you'll find what you want.
Just sayin' after 43 years of marriage.

If there is that much discontent you will be better off without them.

Jack Stevens that owns slab buster jigs has his place up for sale. Not exactly sure where it is but I know he is close to the dam and has a dock.

Looks like he is not far from the old place. Right at the mouth of the Gravois arm.

Jacks place is in the first cut on right just as you enter the Gravois arm. Just idle around in the vicinity and follow your nose to the garlic scent and you will find it. LOL

There is a big auction in May by me. The old Big Thunder Marina is being auctioned off. Theres 3 houses and 5 or so cabins all going up. A good approach is to contact a real estate agent you or someone you know trusts. They will send info on a regular basis. I've got one I've been working with. Email me if you want his name ... [email protected].

Based off what I saw for sale in the cove you said Jack lives in, I think they're just a tad out of my price range. And by a tad, I mean a lot. lol Thanks for the heads-up, though!

The Big Thunder auction is very interesting, so many thanks for that info! I will look into it. The thing about auctions is that you usually need to have the cash with no financing...not sure how much I can come up with, plus I'll still be out of the country...will have my family look into it.

If the homes in the auction are what you are looking for, do not give up if you cannot make arrangements to bid by securing a loan commitment/have enough cash etc. Often these properties will go to persons who renovate and offer them for sale. You may not get the deep deal but you won't have the hassle of fixing them either. Have someone from the family contact the auctioneer and explain your situation. Most are very accommodating if it is not at the day of the sale when things are crazy.

Here is another good agent. My wife and I used him when we started looking about 7 years ago. Dennis (agent) was not pushy and we found real easy to work with. He lives down near the dam and is an avid fisherman himself.

Thanks Mark! There may have been a little change in MY plans, next month we will be grandparents and the boss is spending money all over the place!!!!

Congrats on being grandparents. Its time to get that boat out and see if it still runs.

Found a house in Indian Creek that I will be buying with my side of the family (the sane ones). Will hopefully close on it in the next couple weeks and will need to get a dock put on it ASAP. The water gets about 20 feet deep at 30 feet from the bank, then drops off to about 40 feet deep - should prove to be good fishing! Just need to cut down a forest of cedars to get the underwater city going. :)

Sane side or not, I'd get some rules and agreements set in writing and registered at the county recorder's office. It would be worth the small fee a lawyer would charge. And possibly save major heartburn later.
