How long was it.
Huge Yellow Perch! We fished Barkley today and caught one bluegill and one yellow bass...the crappie eluded us.
I caught 1 in Big Bear back in Jan that was 15 1/4 inches. She was big around as a softball!
I catch 2 or 3 per year ... I always throw them back ... (after they've squirted all over my boat) ...
I sure wish they would proliferate here on our lakes ...

That is some good eating.
I've saw a couple come out on the Kentucky lakeside maybe they will take off like the shell crackers did...would be awesome.
Current State Record Yellow Perch came from KY Lake ... Mar 2010 ... at 1lb 6.4oz (according to 2012 Fishing/Boating Guide) No measurements available.
That fish surpassed the previous State Record of 1lb 4oz ... Nov 2004 ... and this fish was 13.5" long with a girth of 9.5"
WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE THINKING :scratchhead :yikes .... get those fish officially weighed and certified and get your name in the record books !!! :Rofl

Did you catch that perch near weeds? If the lake has weeds, there'll be some perch in them or close by. Every predator fish in the lake likes to eat young perch so not many make it to full size. Even bluegills love them.
I have caught several out Ky Lake. I keep them. They are very good to eat.
Very good eatin. Daron and i have caught a couple. The last one we cleaned, i wish we would have released her now.
We had two special catches that weekend. A magnolia or black nose crappie and a yellow perch. The magnolia went back to be caught another day.

CX .... probably not any true "Magnolia" Crappie in KY. But, there's plenty of the Blacknose Black Crappie in several of our lakes.

That's a beast of a lake perch for Kentucky! I cut my teeth on lake perch fishing lake Michigan and they are the best eating fresh water fish that there is in my opinion!! I caught a lot of 18 and 19 inch perch but to see one like that out of Kentucky lake is very promising!!! Perch need a lot of weeds and cover for reproduction and that's one thing we do not have a lot of here in the lake! Barkley more then Kentucky but it would be a blast to add that to are list of many fishing options! How great would that be to have a May perch run on the lake? Great catch! :cheers2
Like he said...big perch from the Windy city area!! Attachment 199705
