Do any of the lakes bear Tampa have decent Crappie fishing? Or do I need to head into center of the state? Looks like I'm transferring to that location this summer.

We have 20 tournaments a year with different lakes - can research back 5 yrs to
various lakes around Tampa and see results, what type equipment was used
and time of year.
Any recent news on crappie lakes near TAMPA?
Been hearing some decent reports from Teneroc near Lakeland. That's not a bad drive from Tampa.
I haven't transitioned to specks yet this season, but am getting ready to. Should start picking up. I haven't fished the stuff around Tampa though.
Pretty much answered your question - 3 yrs ago - Lake Tarpon would be first on list - Medard off hwy 60 east of brandon and then moving east to Kissimmee Chain - Spec wise not all that good in the Winter Haven chain - Bass fishing is good
East & West Toho around the city of KIssimmee
South on I-75 - Lake Manatee is excellent Spec lake - however, restricted to motor size 20 hp
North on I-75 Inverness - Floral City good Spec Lakes
Have you fished medard in recent years fishin813? I fished it last year a couple times with no success.
Did catch some sunshine bass in there on Sunday, didn't try for specks at all.
I honestly have not fished Medard ever since they lowered it to repair the dam - That would have been appox 7-8 yrs.
I didn't lie after FWC took it over from County -(Wouldn't let me take pictures of pit prior to filling) and let it go kinda wild - Buzzards not under control (they will eat anything that is black and rubbery ie: wiper blades - molding around windows etc) Also they attached fees - $100.00 yr sticker, $100.00 boat launch & $100.00 night fishing fee. I have heard the Strippers have really taken it over - make sure you have
rods in their holders or they will be gone..
Personaly i fish Tarpon Lake -Lake Tarpon off Hwy 19.
Florida Crappie Club has forum on this forum - they do 20 tournaments a year -
I retired as VP last Dec 31st - 10 yrs on tournament trail was enough for a while - They are good club.
Didn't realize my play on words Mike
ha yea ha
Tarpon house would be great. Big bass in there also. If I lived on the water I would feed fish every day and catch my own wild shiners. Big bass love wild shiners. Walden Lake in Plant City is very good but you have to live there to use the ramp. Teneroc is a lot of phosphate pits controlled by FWC. Sometimes very good. 10 inch and 10 fish limit per person. Most lakes are trolling motor only. Others are idle only. Careful you can get lost in that place.
A couple of weeks ago, had a fella tell me "a blind man could catch crappie on Lake Tarpon". Sounds like the place to start.
