Use grass shrimp if you have them. Under a cork or tip a jig. Crickets will work the same way
Have never seen or used grass shrimp...would they be in the pond on their own? How do I catch them?
In Louisiana they are in any lake or pond that has weed beds. Use a fine mesh dip net about a foot square and run it through the root of the weeds
Almost any small bait will work.
For live bait, I prefer some type of grub: maggots, wax worms or meal worms, in that order.
For artificials, jigs are great (1/32 oz or smaller.) Flies work well, too.
My favorite colors are, in order:
Solid red
Solid black
Solid chartreuse
Solid white
It's not too complicated.
Sometimes I tip the jig with a wax worm, sometimes not. Overall, I think it helps. As I go through my fishing records over the last several years, a 1/64 black marabou jig tipped with a wax worm is just deadly.
I fish a private pond here in AL and there are some king sized bream in there. I catch a lot using a roadrunner with a white/chartreuse body. but the color will also be dictated by the color of water and light level. i've caught some on electric chicken colors as well
Nice panfish will hit small minnows.....live or plastic.
Red wigglers. Shellcrackers prefer them over crickets and artificial baits.
If you're looking for bait ideas, there are two sticky threads at the top of the forum that talks about every bait imaginable.
If you're looking more for techniques, just do what you do for crappie but with smaller baits.
I guarantee you that a cane pole and bait or a spinning rod and jigs or a fly rod and flies will all catch plenty of fish.
