Never had that happen to me on Tellico. What area were you fishing?
Lampreys! Invasive species invaded Tellico years ago. Rarely fish there without catching one or two crappie with those on them.
Jimp, I was in the Notchy Creek area .... I am learning this boogers are pretty common.
That is not good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Normal. Doesn't hurt a thing.
See them all the time.
I caught one yesterday in the Notchy Creek area that had a red swollen spot on its forehead (?) and wondered what it was, guess this now explains that for me.
How does one remove these critters ??
I simply took plyers, pulled them off and cut the head off.
i would think the bass would eat these things ... Anyone know??
Most of the time they will drop off in the boat.
I know of a bass that wanted to eat one I think. I removed a huge lamprey attached right between it's eyes last summer. I'm sure it was driving it crazy. They make good catfish bait.
Caught a crappie on Ft. Loudon yesterday , 3/28 , that had a lamprey on it. It was up inside the gills. First that I have seen on Loudon in a while. Have seen lots on Tellico.
