Hey ya'll. I think this is so cool and wanted to share it. A good friend of mine went to Kaw a couple days ago and look what floated up right in front of him. He said the big fish was about a pound and a quarter, and the small fish was seven inches! Don't be afraid to use a bigger bait!
Almost forgot...he pulled them apart and they swam away.

I've seen the same thing here only Crappie tried to eat Yellow Bass and Bream. I'm a believer in big baits in spring even more so. That's when I use 2.5'' Southern Pro Walleye Tubes in glow colors on a 1/4 oz jig head. The fish are aggressive and the large bait in bright colors works great in dingy water we tend to have with all the rains.

Crappie tried to eat Yellow Bass .
Here is a Slab that ate a smaller Crappie. I have a photo somewhere of a Bream stuck in a Crappie's mouth. The Shad here tend to run large and Crappie eat them regularly up to 4''. I'm sold on big baits.

About the only time I downsize to smaller baits is in the winter. I like big baits and when I say that 3" and up. Bigger profile, displaces more water, more visible in dirty water, and give me confidence. Isn't confidence what it's all about. Monday I was catching 3" to 5" crappie on 3" baits with a 3/16-1/0 hook jig head and they would inhale it. It's all about the thump and how you handle it.......Ranger
Kaw is where we started using 4" shad to crappie fish with. Have some problems hooking them though.
Nice picture and thanks for posting it. Use to have guys ask me why my tails on my jigs are so long, well here is just one reason! Mostly though because I like tails long! Actually makes a 1/32 Oz Roadrunner have more size which is why I use in spring most of the time.

Here is a pic from last September. Not a crappie but you get the idea. This was a 3" Mo Magic on a 1/0 hook. Fish was about 5". I fish 2.5" - 3" baits.

While striper fishing on lake Towakini in Texas last year we couldnt keep the crappie off of 6" sassy shads with 1/2 jig heads. Big crappies. I like big baits and I cannot lie! I do try big baits, but I think the coditions have to be right. usually do better on smaller jigs
I usually use two and half or three inch jigs and i have had small fish inhale it....i kinda agree with EB on the idea is a fish gonna eat alot of small meals or one bigger meal...there are times when we have to go smaller but usually we fish the bigger baits.
