What if a lake such as poverty point would not allow any crappie to be kept March & April? What do you guys think the affect it would on the crappie population on the lake for the remainder of current year and the next. Just wondering. What are y'all's thought on what would happen. Have fun!!
Not much in my opinion. A lake can only hold so much fish. And then the fishermen would just jump somewhere else and put the pressure there.
It would over populate and Forever be a dink hole. Pressure makes them big and no pressure makes them small. Ask any biologist. Or private lake owner. NJMO.

I release a lot of fish during spawn as I catch more than needed. I think no one knows the answer for sure. That being said
I fished poverty point this weekend and the quality of the fish is amazing. I've always thought maybe reduced limits during spawn but except on best days most don't catch near limits anyway
That being said the one thought to me on a true trophy lake like poverty would be getting fisherman to release a lot of the 2-12 and up fish just because those are the fish most likely to get even bigger. I pretty sure poverty will produce a 4 lber soon but releasing the 3 lb fish would increase the chances
That being said that would benefit me who is always chasing big fish in general and doesn't necessarily make since for most who fish it
Regardless. Poverty is an amazing place and though grenada which I have fished a few times has a few bigger fish it is such a tough sometimes (most times) and humbling place to fish.
Pop has two on the wall from poverty when it first opened that went 3.15 and 3.13 . It probably has produced a 4 , just no one spoke up .
Cormorants , They do not fish close to banks where Bream hang out. Schools of shad and Crappie are targeted . This whole winter nobody have been catching on D'Arbonne but the birds have hauled out tons of fish
I know a guy that caught a 4.25 he lived on the lake but has since moved
I agree 100% Fish on Line there were never that many birds years ago
It's the only lake in the state that consistently produces 3lb fish. No change necessary
Sorry about the link now showing up correct, post on mobile device. I fish these lakes mostly. It was unreal how many cormorants there were, especially during the winter when the shad would bunch up and become lethargic. I haven't heard how many were shot this season, but I reckon we will see how well it pays off.

They do need address the bird population ..I've caught so many big fish with puncture wounds and I've seen a few dead fish, that may have been caused by this..the good news about the point is that it is so fertile and the shad population is so great, that it should continue to produce that fish you have always dreamed of catching.. I'll let ya know heading back there Monday lol
This is what I was thinking. I know that the lake produces good fish, I also know it doesn't produce the numbers it used to do. There are several factors for this too, the lake is always gonna get a ton of pressure. Like someone else said, it's full of shad, but I can't help but wonder if the crappie numbers are below what they should, are there plenty of small fish being caught as well? Idk. I just don't think that it would hurt the lake to not take any female out during March n April at least once every few years. But like I said idk, I was just throwing something out there to think about. I just know it doesn't consistently produce the numbers that it once did on a regular basis. After all it is basically a big pond, maybe it needs to be restocked every once in awhileQuote:

I would think on those lake type areas people would want to target the poachers. Meaning the unsportsmanlike sportsmen.
