Hank hate to break this to you but their are no nice slabs in nea....there's several places to get on a few decent crappie though. Lake houge, lake poinsett, lake Charles ...there's the st.Francis river and the bar-pits that are attached to it. Mallard lake. Shirey bay and porsha bay. Several places to try. Good luck
Borrow pits at marked tree. Ashbaugh can turn out some nice ones. Midway, Horseshoe and Tunica are further but can be a1. Don't see why big lake isn't full of them. Saw a guy from Trumann that had 20 over 3 pounds from Burnt Cane. But I have had some slow days the last couple of years there.
I've seen it myself. You get on the lake during a bass tournament and ask those knuckleheads if they've caught any crappie, and they'll tell you they catch 3lbers all time. Had a fellow said he had a 2.5 in his cooler and did I want to see it. I said yes, and he pulled out a 13 incher that you could have read a newspaper through.
Yep... Not trying to start anything. But from my personal experiences a set of scales will hurt a lot of peoples feelings.... Including mine[emoji106][emoji106]
Similar to the 2 stringers of bass I saw at Toledo bend that averaged over 8 pounds strange things can happen. Saw a nice Grenada catch with about 3-4 over 3. Burnt cane was an amazing hole til the public found out about. Now it can be tough. Probably still there but changed their ways and my tops have seen their days.
Talked to a guy at Horseshoe one day and he said he had a box full of 2lbers. I told him no way and he said to come look. I went over and he did have a nice mess of MALES, bout 3/4-1lb each. Good eaters but I doubt he'd ever weighed a crappie before. [emoji4]
I ain't caught 20 3lbers in my lifetime of fishing.
I have to agree with you guys. Ive heard about all these 2 lbers people are always catching but Ive yet to see one. When I caught my first good crappie I would have sworn it was 2 lbs till I got home and weighed it. 1 3/4 13.5 inches long.
Hank these guys are steering you in the right direction. I live in Walnut Ridge. The oxbows on Black river are decent when they arent crowded. Ive caught a lot of dinks in Lake Charles but there are good ones in there. I have a buddy who is a biologist and they do sampling in Lake Charles and there are some good crappie in it.
Has anyone had any luck in lake ashbaugh or spring river?
