Hey guys, im looking at the minn kota powerdrive v2. What exactly does powerdrive mean? And do any of yall use this trolling motor? Thanks.
I believe power drive refers to electric steering.
I have one on my Jon boat. It has copilot and works fine. It is one of the first V2-55# models. It has held up good. I give it 4.2 stars. Foot pedal kinda suckies so I made my own foot pedal.
I've had mine since 2007 and has been on 3 boats since then. Still going strong.
I sure hope it's a good trolling motor I justed ordered one from Brian at bbg marine. Give him a call he will do you right he is a member sponsor on here.
Alright thanks for responses. The co pilot remote with work with it right? And does it have slow speeds on the trolling motor? I'll be using it for spider rigging.
We've had ours for two years. Works great for spider rigging. You can maintain speeds as slow as .2 to .3. We just upgraded from co pilot to i pilot, mainly for spot lock and cruise control. If you plan on mounting a transducer to it, check out the sticky on the power drive v2 transducer installation. It requires a not so great way of installing the transducer in my opinion, but it works.
I'm not sure on your budget. But if you can get it with I pilot. All the added features are worth it. You get cruise control spot lock, tracks will come in real handy if you are on a certain hot spot.
I have had the power drive 55 since 98, got a new one in 05, works good for spider rigging. I have the co- pilot and love it.. I just rebuilt the hole motor, I fish 2 times a week all year, it can be wore out, I wore mine out, but it is easy to rebuild, mine is like new now, for a lot less than a new one. I done the work my self.
Thanks for responses. The ipilot is a little out of my price range. im gonna get the v2 powerdrive and add the remote. I can get the trolling motor at cabeles on sale for $400 and its a 50lb thrust. Is that a decent deal?
Check with Brian at bbg marine before you buy one.
Is the 54in shaft too long? I have a 17ft boat? What is the purpose for longer and shorter shafts.
I'm on my 2nd powerdrive...had a 45# with copilot on my PT 165, and like it so much when I bought my PT 175TF I put a #55 power drive with copilot on it
The shaft length all depends on style of boat. If you are fishing out of a jon boat a 48 should work just fine. If you are fishing out of a deep V you need the longer shaft. I know on my boat which is a 17' war eagle the 48 is plenty long. Most guys can choke up on the shaft to keep it running just under the surface but on my boat I can't do this bc I have a drop down deck which is where my pole holders are mounted and if I choke up on my shaft it will hit my poles. I hope this helps.
Thanks for reply joey.
Good thing about the PD V2's...units built from '07 on can be upgraded to iPilot with a kit that includes GPS in the head.
I have the powerdrive V1 on my Triton 1657 panfish, mine I got used and it had a 60" shaft, was going to cut it down but the extra shaft above the steering collar really helps pulling it out of the lake, so I didn't have it cut, and at $400 that is a good deal,
I have my second PD motor, the first one got sold with the boat it was on. This one has the auto pilot and is super. It works on a compass heading so that when trolling you point it and forget it. When the wind blows you out of shape the AP keeps you going the direction you wanted to go. The I-Pilot works off of a gps heading and is another upgrade from mine. I have a 70 lb model for my Bass boat and it does a fine job for 4 years now. The AP is turned on by a button on top of the head of the motor so you don't have to use it if you choose not to. Longer shafts for taller sided boats. Mine is a 60 in and sticks up some but rarely gets in the way and helps some with stow and deploy. Hope this helps.
Sounds like there good and tough motors.
Check Amazon.com. I picked up my Endura 55 new in box for 220.00
I'm gonna guess at that price that maybe it's a 12v model? I'm half owner with Crappiehabits and as he said we bought ours new with our boat and it was 749ish. I'll also recommend you get the mount that minn kota offers. Instead of mounting your motor itself to the boat you mount this plate and at any time you can remove the trolling motor from that plate in less that a minute. Good luck.
Yeah it's the 12v model.
I had one on my old boat (16 ft deep V) and one on my dads boat.
The one on my old boat had Co-Pilot and I used it verticle jigging the river. Had no issues with battery life.
The one on my dad's boat has I-Pilot and is used for trolling walleyes.
I hated the foot pedel as it just didn't perform quick enough for what I wanted. Way too touchy in my opinion. The remote is the way to go hands down.
I had a 48 and I wished I would have gotten the 54 as it would come out of the water a little too much.
I have a Terrova on my new boat. Bigger boat, bigger motor. I had no issues with the powerdrive V2. Bullet proof in my opinion. Guy I sold it to just bought the I-pilot add on head to it. Mine also had the US2 sonar.
Good unit. You won't be dissapointed
Think yall convinced me to get it.
