Boat trailer

Okay so I have to two things to get out of the way before I show a picture of this.

First, we all know I drink some along the way, so maybe some of the responsibility could fall there.

Second, I ain't no builder. This boat trailer stretches the definition of "boat trailer" to some extremes. It is a boat carriage.

Also, it is not finished, but this was the first non-freezing, non-raining, and warm enough day I had to work on it. I couldn't resist throwing something together. I figured I'd jack it up to try to keep the four wheeler from filling it with mud, but I'll just have to see how that goes when I get to try pulling it. Plus, I only have about $20 in it, so it was built mostly out of stuff I had laying around. More to come...hopefully.

I have an idea:
How about building a support for it above the atv-that way the boat wont fill with mud and be more mobile--just a thought....

My plan which might fail is to keep its nose up to avoid the majority of the mud. I'm guessing it'll be a modify as I go project. I've tried to keep it as low as possible to help in navigating the trails, but me and Paul (my name for my stihl) are going to have to do some trail work anyway.

You have messed up already. Your should have gotten a patent on it before you let anyone see it. Now, everybody and their brother will be having one built or building one on their own. That rig looks much safer than carrying one in the trunk of your car.

Hahahahahahaha! Where do you think I picked this crap up from? Farming sweet potatoes & soy beans till I was in my 20s and then driving trucks for 7 years or so. My daddy didn't teach me to make anything right. He (and I it turns out) is satisfied as long as it works.

stormcloud, I don't think I have to worry about losing any intellectual property on this one. If anyone is desperate enough to want one of these, he is welcome to it.

You ain't missed by much. Thorn MS (Chickasaw County) is where I came from, but we sold them in Vardaman (Calhoun County).

Took trailer/carriage out for its first trip to the water today. Several modifications are required. #1 is that I have to widened it. I don't know how many times that thing tipped over. Very frustrating. I did get the trailers cut wide enough to let me pass pretty easily. #2 is to sure up the supports a bit. It had a little more bounce in it that I was expecting. All in all though, it worked well.

This was also the first time I had the boat in the water since I got it from Bird down, and it was awesome. I had two small, plastic paddles I bought just for it, and I was scooting around that water like motorboat! There was one small leak, but I'll weld that up with no problem. Hard to tell from the pics, but it sure does look like that transom is low to the ground. Looks like it would be easy to bang it on a root or rock. Might consider taller tires or blocking it up a bit in the back. Couple of inches would make a big difference.

You might make the front upright look like a football goal post, drape a strip of carpet from the top of the uprights to make sling for the front of the boat to lay in.

Thank you for the suggestion Jethro. Thank would definitely give it a softer bed to lay in.

With all the rain I've had today, the internet has been spotty and I couldn't do no real work. Soooo, I went back to the shed to work on the boat trailer. It looks better to me. I don't know how it'll do in the woods, but it worked pretty good while I was pulling it around the roads here. I gotta do work inside the boat now, but I'm hoping to have it ready for a serious test run in a day or so.
