Rainy day here and been looking. 17'8 can run a 75 hp motor. A 18'8 is rated for a 115. How does 1 ft of boat allow for 40 more hp's?

good question......maybe its a little wider too....dunno
Dont know, my 19ft tracker is rated for a 135hp
Weight distibution and leverage.
Width is same.. Was hoping that ugly ol ranger dealer would chime in!! [emoji13]
Dang, must be napping in all this rain or sumpin!
Extra foot of length= more foam injected level floatation to support 40 more horses. The extra foot also has less draft in the water which will support the extra weight of the engine. Sorry it took so long, I had to make a phone call. Lol
I have one of each ifn you'd like to come see them. [emoji4]
The Coast guard sets the maximum horsepower by using different mathematical formulas (length x width) for different types of boats. The manufacturer can set a lower horsepower rating to satisfy the market. The RT188 could be rated for 150hp but would be to close to the cost of the glass boats Ranger sells. The Z118 glass boat is rated for 150hp for the same reason. It could be rated for 200hp like the Z518 which is the same hull only with more features. The lower rating keeps the cost down.
The Xpress 18' Hyper Lift boat is rated for a 150 (Scary Fast), and the 17'er is rated for a 115 (also a blur). The pad boat has a wider bottom, beam width, more flotation, and better handling.
