While on my visit this past weekend I heard a lot about logging chains. How big are the chains you guys are using if someone could post a pic of their setup or the approx weight that would be great. Thanks in advance

four ft. of three eights in. log chain with about 45 ft. of rope tied to to it. Most folks have two sets
That should do it. I have a pair of 3/8ths six footers but I think four feet would work just fine.
Depends on the boat, 5ft sections of 5/16 was plenty most of the time on my Astro but with the BassCat I use them with a 5 foot section of 1/4 hooked to each of them and it works perfect on this hull.
You dont need no god awful big chain, not looking for an anchor but something to pull, wont get hung near as bad either if its smaller. Think I hung my chains twice last year and that was while I was fishing with GitDaGrease, may not have been but once. Do know this, he had been using socks and after we fished he went and put him a chain set up together.
Do you pull chains when your long line trolling or just spider rigging? Seems like it would scare the fish off long lining for the back of the boat.
Pulled one the other day long lining because the wind was trying to push the back of the boat around, but mostly for spider rigging. As far as bothering anything I dont think so, I will fall in behind someone pulling chains in a heartbeat, actually thinks it triggers a bite. In the Grenada tourney last year we were picking up our poles to go in for the weigh in, got everything in and trolling motor up and look behind the boat. A guy was less than 50 yards behind us and caught 2 before we could get cranked up.
Seems stirring up the bottom attracts them. Ice fishing trick, raise an lower quickly to make the silt come up. Dave Genz an icefishing guru swears by it.
Thanks guys I appreciate it. I have a tracker grizzly 1754 (pretty flat hull) but really light boat
I use two 3-4' pieces of 1/2" chain.
Best put them chains on your vehicle the next couple of days...
I have two 5 foot 3/8' chains on 45 feet of rope for hangin off the back and two more 4 footers n storage for off the sides. Depends on wind and how the drift is takin you. More rope out...the slower you go.
I know this much, you can't haul enuf chain to stop Big Blues boat on day of Crappie Masters!!!!!
