Here is to see what what lakes is on the built in maps

I just went through this issue and after really looking hard at this issue I chose to upgrade from HB to Garmin. Take a look at the 93sv because at the suggested retail price of $1199 it is just hard to beat. I think Garmin has dominated the land, air, and salt water market and now is going to push hard into the fresh water market this year.
Yeah that unit looks amazing I think I am just getting over anxious to get a si unit. I'm just gonna have to wait and be patient if I could find that 93 on sale for 50-100 less I'd pull the trigger on it. I that might be awhile tho since it just came out. I just have a hard time letting go of the $ but if I settle for anything less I think I'd always regret it. Shopping for these things is as bad as buying a new truck.
Brownie have you called BBG Marine or Universal Mania and got a quote ?
I was under the impression that garmin has MAP
pricing and dealers can't sell for less I may be wrong but that's what I heard
brownie ,I think they can not advertise any lower price but can sell at a lower than MAP price. I bought my elite 7 hdi and got a better than MAP price from bbg marine, but other dealers will sell lower also. Go to web site and place the unit "in the cart". you can remove if not satisfied. You can save a few bucks doing this..........Good Luck.... crappie1133
Thanks for the heads up I look to take the leap in the next 2 weeks.
Brownie I've been looking at the 73dv and to get hd down vu you have to buy the hd transducer ($389) and a 455/800 khz box xtra ($450). It only goes up to 50/200 khz 77/200beam on the base unit I think. So you'd have to add around $800 to the base unit price to get 455/800 khz si and di.
Yikes i dont like the sound of that. I really dont know much about them or fishfinders in general when it come to what set up for the best picture. So ur saying that the garmin isnt hd and wouldn't get as good of picture as the bird units?
Not saying you don't get a good picture. I just don't think the 50/200khz down / or side view would be as good as your going to get with the 455/800khs picture. Might want to ask Rickie as he has a lot of know how on this subject. Just looks like the Garmin is going to cost twice as much as the HB or Lowrance would cost to get the 455/800 khz image.

Check this out on BBG Marine. Description says you get everything you need.
I tell u all this electronics stuff is enough to make a guys head spin. So it's my understanding that the higher the khz that means more power and a better picture?
The 73SV or 93SV comes with the GT-40 Transducer its all in one has 77/200 for 2D and 455 for SV and DV it has dedicated down image crystal not like the Hbird where it combine's the SI for the DV . there is no box to buy unless you get a 70S or 70 dv
This is the Transducer it comes with its actually a chirp transducer but the 73SV or 93SV dont support the chirp function

That ad and the one at Bass Pro both say it comes with the 77/200 khz transducer. Don't believe the hi def 455/800 khz comes with it. Its extra but I have been know to be wrong many times.
That ad is wrong it comes with SI and DI I just purchased a 93SV and a 73DV and it def has SI .The models you have to add the box to is the 70S ,70DV,840X,1040X and the higher models if you look at the description you just provided it says ( Includes 77/200 kHz HD-ID/Downü/SideVu transducer in the box)
The 93SV and 73SV just dont support the chirp function even though its a chirp transducer but it is a all in one Transducer DI/SI/2D its big though 8 1/4 inches long
Call Brian at BBG he will tell ya the same thing the AD is just worded funny

Phone pic of my 93SV
Brownie,
Why don't you give me a call (no obligation :biggrin) ... and I can explain all the details on the Garmin Echomap and GPSMAP series. They are very nice units and we can discuss what features they have that might fit your needs. The 73DV and 93 SV have been very popular units.

Thanks Brian that will clear up any confusion :cheers2
I just confirmed with Garmin TS that Echomap series (73sv/dv and 93SV) that come pre-packaged with the down and or side vu transducers (GT40/GT20) will have the following frequencies - 77/200/455/800khz.
Brian
What is a chirp function
CHIRP sonar uses a range of frequencies instead of 1 single frequency like 200khz. The end result is better target separation and more detail on your screen. Fish arches are full and more defined. Fish on the bottom of the lake are easier to identify. Those are some of the advantages. Brian

Is the 73 sv a good one
Why no reply
Sorry for the late reply. Your messages were not received to my email.
Yes, the Garmin Echomap 73sv is a very good unit. I run the Echomap 70DV and the Garmin units have excellent down and side vu imaging and a very simple menu system. You will want to check the mapping (garmin.com) for the lakes you fish to make sure you have good coverage.
Brian
What is the best contrast sitting to see fish
I don't have the Echomap 73sv installed on my boat so settings may vary some but I will check my 70dv next time on the water and let you know. Did you already purchase the unit ?..... Brian
Yes bass pro had it on black Friday for 499.00
Brain does the 73sv show fish in Sideview
