Nice fish clfarms.
Do 3 pound bass, channel cat, blue cat, flathead, striper, gar, drum, spoonbill, or turtles count??? If not, NO I have not caught a 3 pounder. My biggest crappie weighed 2.45. I will bet you get several on here that CLAIM they have.
I had a 1.5 lb crappie one time and a taxidermist saw me taking it out of the livewell. He started telling his buddies, look at this 2 and a half pound crappie. I laughed at him.
Most people have no idea how big a 3 pound crappie really is, especially here in Okie land. Now down in Mississippi they may be a little more common. 3 pound crappie are about as rare as 170 inch typical whitetail.
Looking forward to seeing some pics of LEGIT 3 pounders.
Odie
I can only imagine how big a 3 lber is. Those 2 lb + crappie at camp were monsters.
The biggest crappie that ever came in my boat was a hair over 2 1/2 pounds and my wife caught it. I thought it was at least a pound heavier until I weighed it. It came from Thunderbird of all places (30 years ago) and was caught prespawn on a tiny crankbait. I've caught several since then over 2 but never the equal to that one. I'll gladly take a photo if I ever get the big one.
Caught a 3#4oz out of sahoma before the dumbo drained it>
I've caught several 2.3-2.5's. Doug is right, a 3lb crappie is like a Boone and Crockett buck. I hope to catch one someday!
I'm still looking for a 2 lb! 3 lb is a far dream to me!
Several over 2, haven't caught a 3#er yet!!
However we did eat an 18" fish, didn't have a working scale. Wish I really knew what it weighed.
A friend of mine caught a pre spawn female at Kaw about 7 or 8 years ago that weighed 3.1. I can't find the picture though. I think it was 17 inches.
I think it would be better catching a 3 lber out of Oklahoma than traveling to Mississippi our another state where they frequent more often.
Back in the 80's and early 90's, I got a lot of 2.5s out of Hefner, all in the winter, slip-corking with Carl J. The biggest one was 2.7. Did get a 17 incher from Ft. Cobb in the spring two years ago, but didn't weigh it. The biggest I have seen caught was by my son, Montana Boy. He got it from a watershed pond near Ninnekah in 1989 or 1990. He was fishing for bass out of a float tube, using a Deep Down Rattlin' Fat Rap in fire tiger. What at first looked like a light-colored bass turned out to be a 3.5# crappie, the only crappie we ever got out of the watershed.
The kaw one stop where the tourney check in is held, has a monthly crappie contest during the spring and early summer. It takes a 3. something to win it.
My son caught a 3.1 several years ago and was entered into the contest. He didn't even place in the top 3.
For the record, I have not caught one over 3.
Largest crappie I have ever caught was a 2-3/4 pounder off Fountainhead dock in 1990. I wasn't going to weigh it, but the other fishermen there convinced me it was worth weighing. Glad I did, it was a dandy. Got a big one to the surface of the water a few years back and its eyes were 3 inches apart.......fought like an alligator and it busted my rod plum smooth in half, sounded like a gun shot when the rod broke. I cried like a baby..........lol

Just for Redge!
I live on grenada lake in sippi, caught a sack full of 3# fish, my best are a 4.1 and 4.3 out of the same top 3 days apart.... ate them both
We are all envious here in Oklahoma, MrGoodtime. But....., we forgot to mention that if you live in crappie heaven, you can't post unless it's a 5 pounder. Smiley face. One of my buddies has fished both Grenada and Darbonne, and he says it is absolutely spectacular fishing.
Spent 16 weeks on okie land a few yrs ago and didnt know a soul up there to go fishing with. Never fished Darbonne either...yet, Grenada can be a fickle lady, but when its right its the best fishing this side of heaven. I do spend 2 weeks each yr from 3rd week in march till first week in april fishing for specks on Caddo lake on the Tx/La line. As to to the 5#er, i keep waiting for it to happen, i honestly believe she is swimming in Grenada lake, the world record 5.3b white crappie came from Enid lake only 20miles from Grenada. If any of yall ever get down here, look me up, we'll go wet a hook.
2.42 is my biggest ever weighed but I have only been crappie fishing for 6 years so there is still hope for me rotfl. The single fish pic is a 2.2 and the 5 on the lid are 1.89-2.22 All on the same day from Kaw earlier this year. Attachment 192898Attachment 192899
I'm still shooting for the terrible Twos!
Caught a 2.0 black at Broken Bow a few years ago bass fishing with a crank bait.
If you get back up here, make sure you post where you will be. I'm sure you'll get an offer to take you out. This is a great bunch here in Okieland.
Will do
Only caught 1 over 3 and we didn't weight it cause we were certain it was a whooper!!!!Attachment 192955
We throw them dinks back on grenada
Redge, TC can put you on some 3# rubber fish I bet. :biggrin
for the record... this fish is NOT 3 lbs. Attachment 193174
Almost 25 years ago, we used to run yo-yos at Kaw. We caught a few over 2 over the years, but never 3. On rod and reel, I might have caught 2 over 2 lb. One time when we were unloading at Kaw, my friend saw one a guy had in a basket that he tried to get me to see but the guy had already left. He said it covered the bottom of the largest fish basket. We have used shad many times trying to catch one over 3 to no avail.
Could have fooled me!
Me and a couple buddies caught a three man limit at Kaw six years ago. We had over 20 MALES that day that weighed two lbs. or better, and five of them weighed over 2.10 plus. Last spring the males seemed a lot smaller. Can't wait for spring!
