Okay so tell me what you got for sitting over a brush pile with all the fish dots showing on your electric magic locator.
What rod you want in your hand.
Crappie Maxx 10ft. IM8
Hope it's BnM ultralight 12 ft I just bought
Wally marshell 9ft IM8 in one hand and my custom MHX IN the other
Ten foot Ozark rods are extremely light and sensitive but do have a good backbone for a hook set. I have three of them but recently we purchased a 10 foot Bucks best ultra lite.
I like my 11' BNM sam heaton super sensitive
Anything with a fast action tip
Outlaw 10'2 " jigging rod.
My favorite is the 12' Duck Commander Double Touch by B'N'M
10' Ozark rods
I use the 10' Ozark rear seat but I just bought a Grizzly Elite brush rod and really like the feel of that rod. Light weight and a ton of back bone. I also looked at the Duck Commander Double Touch and it is a good feeling rod and the Sam's Supper Sensitive is a long time favorite.
I only use 11ft sante lite rods by whitey outlaw for jigging, no eyes on them, can reach under limbs and up in tops without line catching on everything, plus the arc of the rod with the line running inside it makes for no pressure points to fail.
I'm hoping its going to be a Sam Heaton Super Sensitive 11' that I got last fall, haven't got to try it out yet.
10ft rear seat ozark rod cant be beat!!
Am a Qzark fan 10'.Got 2 Wally Marshall 10' Med lite "WOW" going to be hard to beat.
You name it and someone will say it is their favorite. Personal preference will play a big part in it. I'm not a fan of a whippy rod, so the Ozarks are out for me. I like the 12' BGJP, and 10' Duck Commander for shallow pads, and a 10' Cherrywood for heavy cover.
I just bought a wally rear seat, but the b&m bucks jig pole is supposed to be the lightest rear seat jig pole they make.been having second thoughts ,wished I would have bought the b&m
I have the BnM BBUL bottom real seat and it is very light but being light it lacks backbone. If you want light weight and a ton of backbone try out a Grizzly Elite 10'6" IM7 brush rod. I also just got a Wally's Solo rod and it is a nice rod. There is so many great rods out there your just going to have to try some out and choose for your self.
I use a 7 foot Glomis light action. To fish tight line over brush. Two spools ready on Yozuri 4lb hybrid florocarbon. The other 10 lb power pro. If fish are on top of pile feeding use the 4lb if in the brush go with Power Pro with light wire jig. The rod is super light and sensitive as anything can feel everything. Expensive but well worth the price. Tell me what is the thinking with the longer rods if you are fishing straight under the boat on a tight line.
BnM ultralight 11'
Many reasons. Main one is because sitting directly on top of your fish is a bad idea, especially if you are fishing clear or shallow water. A longer rod helps you put distance between the fish and the boat. Another reason: Typically when vertical jigging brush, you are going to be in 12 fow or less. A long pole lets you set your line to the depth you are fishing, and you can pull the fish in without reeling. Just unhook the fish and drop right back down to the same depth without having to guess how deep you were fishing. If you get hung, just reel up to the jig and poke it loose. Cant do that with a short rod. Fishing brush deeper than 12' is the only reason I would consider using a shorter rod, as you lose most of the advantages of a long pole at those depths.
Also, I fish a lot of lily pads and Cypress trees. You need the reach when fishing visible structure as well. The last thing you want to do is bump the tree and get tangled in the limbs because you are trying to get too close, or pull right up into a patch of pads and spook all the fish. Very difficult to fish this type of structure with a rod shorter than 9-10 feet.
