Exploring a possible relocate... Any info would be appreciated!
There's a lot of good reasons to relocate to Batesville, but I don't think crappie fishing is one of them. I usually have to travel at least 45 minutes to an hour to fish. The white river is full of crappie but it's hard to find them, then they may not be there the next day. A lot of Batesville people fish Greers Ferry and at times it can be good fishing, but there are plenty of times when it's one of the toughest lakes to crappie fish. When we moved here over 20 years ago it was because we thought it was the best place, out of many choices, to raise a family. And we weren't disappointed. Hope to see you here.
Batesville MS would be a better crappie fishing choice. [emoji4]
Mac, you been to Erling lately? Im hearing pretty decent reports?
Batesville is a great community to live and raise a family but like MAC said mostly have to drive 45 minutes or more to really be in good crappie waters. Me personally the driving is worth the trade off to live in a great community .
Raised my girls there, great community. Love your avatar brother
I appreciate the feedback guys. Currently, I drive 2.5 hours to get to Pool 13 and 3+ hours to Shelbyville, so my definition of "around" is probably different than most people's. LOL! I'm not sure I'll end up in Arkansas in the near future, but this exercise is very good for my soul...
I don't know what part of the country you live in now but I can tell you that community would be a great place to raise a family. As for the fishing, a few years ago, we fished a near-by white river oxbow called taylor bay and it was real good at times. However, if your willing to drive 3 hours you're considering a good area.
Lots of crappie fishing guys live in Batesville area. I've sold quite a few boats up that way.

Actually, one of my best crappie fishing trips on the white river at batesville was right at the base of the dam when the water was low enough not to be flowing over it. They were stacked up there. Caught a bunch and then not one the next day. That's been my experience crappie fishing the river here.
The White River has walleye, sauger, and bass fishing, and has pretty good crappie fishing if you put in the time to learn the river. Black River, which is 30 min away, has good crappie fishing at times. Otherwise, there's a wide variety of good fishing within one to three hours. Batesville's a good town in which to live.
This just got serious
I appreciate the feedback everyone! Looks like I'm heading for a visit soon.
Hot Springs is the place you want to be, lots of lakes to catch crappie and if no kids to raise ya'll be liken it.
Hey Jeff, if there is anything I can do for you while your here, I'd be glad to so. If you have any questions about the community, maybe I can help. My contact information is in my signature, feel free to call or stop by the office, if it's on a weekend feel free to call my cell number 870 613 3033.
Thanks Bobby! I have a pretty full itinerary, but since I'll be just down the street at the hospital, I'm going to try and stop and say hello. I appreciate your offer!
Anybody ever fished around the Lock 3 dam area. Our hunting club is near there. The AGFC put a nice new ramp in that area a couple of years ago.
Mac Daddy,
I rode by your office a couple times today. The people I was with took me on a tour of Batesville. I spent almost 10 hours with hospital staff today. I have met absolutely wonderful people everywhere I went the past couple of days. The residents of Mountain View and of Batesville treated my wife and I wonderfully! I just wish the rain would stop! Now I wait a week to see if I come back for another round of interviews. This is definitely a place I could spend the rest of my life...
It is, and I hope you do. My wife works at pediatric clinic and is very happy there.
I'd say if they've spent that much time with you, they will have you back. The hospital has always been very proactive in recruiting top notch prospects. I'd say it's a complement to you if they've spent that much time with you. I'm sure we'll be seeing you around.
I received the call tonight. Back down for more interviews with more leaders and docs. Another week of a hard time sleeping... LOL!
Best of luck and hope you are here soon. Like I said great place to raise a family.
I just read this post and remember about 20 years ago, we used to crappie fish at Ramsey Slough. It was behind Reno's gas/tackle. I haven't been in the Batesville area in about 15 years, so I don't know if Reno's is even there or if Ramsey slough is still being fished. It did have a lot of crappie in it, so maybe one of the locals can fill in some info on this.
I've lived here since 94 and I know there are crappie in Ramsey slough, and have heard of people catching them there too. But I've never been able to do any good there, even though it looks good. There's some reason though that people fish it, cause I see a lot of trucks and trailers there about every time I drive passed it. Maybe it gets too much pressure.:dono
Lots of crappie in Ramsey Slough but most are small. Did catch 1 there that was over 1.5 lbs several years ago.
I stopped to say hello Mac Daddy, but your doors were locked. You all were either at lunch or out fishing... Hopefully I'll have another opportunity to stop in, if they want me down here permanently. I'll find out next week.
Beginning May 11th, I will officially be a resident of Arkansas!!
Told you so. Welcome to Batesville. If I can ask, what will you be doing for the hospital?
I will be the Director of the Information Systems department.
Good deal, let me know when you get to town and if there is anything I can do to help with your relocation, then I'd be glad to.
