The { Gray Ghost} along with a few more!
The real Gray Ghost didn't use tip of the feather at all! It was just the V's type tying with neck hackle! The original I have seen in hand and had a funny shape head and a gray chenille body and all Gray tail with a touch of Black in it.Your ties are fine, but just thought you should know what the real deal was and iI have tied a boat load of them and all seem to do very well! I just used a minnow head as well as a ball head of they wanted with a #6 Sickle, but the real ones used a small regular bend hook. I had to convince them to try these Sickle hooks!Oh forgot to say I have not really fished it here, but as close as I get is probably Silver/Blue/White or Silver/Silver/Blue and that is when I can see 3' or more down in the water. Meaning see my jig that far down!
Post one buddy let me see what you talking about!
Couldn't find one quick, but this is same if you can just picture a Gray body. Also the original had an unpainted head like this jig, but his didmt have the stuff in it that kept is bright Silver like this head is.http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b4...psb11a843c.jpg
Ok thank Skip!
I like those ties and the red sickle hooks are good too.
what head is that?
Thanks, Gary
Good looking jigs.the red one would work best in my lake. Gray is not a bad color but not the best. Just depends on you lake.
Attachment 191919Here is my version not sure how to rotate the pic.
Skip I will ask your opinion is this to much black?
justcameslabdaddy I like the way you have a tip of the feather and then the V. I think I might have to try that on some.
Hay thank buddy. And the head is a Walleye head.
Lovely jigs!! Simply lovely!
Let me say it like this, I take 3 Gray V's and 1 Black to tie in and the Black should be visible, but just kind of like an accent. So you want more Gray in it by a good bit. After all it is the Gray Ghost right? That amount of Black is hard to tell from the picture, but looks more like you need more Gray??
I got some of the originals. I will try to snap a pic n post it. Caught several at yucatan with it, I'm just not crazy about that small hook.
Great looking jigs guys.
Skip, you are truly a master at this little hobby of all of ours.

The Ghost is one I tie a lot of and always have several in the box along with variations. I've used plain, white, gray and black heads and mixed the chenille and feathers the same way, all with good results. With 2 of us in the boat we try to take a little different offering and see if there's a difference. Water clarity and sunlight conditions is all I can think of that makes one better than the other but there are times a darker version does better. Point is that there isn't any of these that are wrong, just wrong for that day and having the others gives you a better chance. The ghost is also my first choice to see if the jig and cork thing is working that day as it is seldom refused. Good work Daddy.
Original gray ghost. 2nd pic is a jig made by crappie getter. Filled up 3 ice chest of crappie with it at yucatan Attachment 193112Attachment 193113 one Easter weekend.
That original look like it! Have some jig heads kind of like that I use for kip tail, but not regular type jig since it has a special collar and these have none. I used both minnow and ball heads on them. Some guys got some of each.
That at head I had not seen before seeing the original someone sent me. Mine that is similar is flatter so is still a good bit different than this one the guy at Lake Fork used thing these for everyone. It's a jig that the name is well known to say the least! I wish I could remember that guys name, but right now it evades me.
