Can anyone who knows about the mororguide wireless series trolling motors please submit opinions, reviews, thoughts, experiences with this motor, etc.? Thank you.
I would use it mostly for spider rig rolling.
I run a motorguide w55 I bought last year. I like it fine their is a small learning curve in using one. I have the wireless foot control and hand held control also.
I had one 4yrs. ago for a day. Took it back an got a MinnKota I pilot. Don't know if they changed since then, but was noisy and remote worked terrible.
XI5 or standard wireless.
Wilber ,,that makes 2 of us.....did exactly the same. Hawg, everybody I know looked hard at motorguide and went with M.K.
I would like to see a poll on here, bet I know which way it goes
My son bought the MG wireless a few months ago and has had problems with intermittent lose of control; I run Minn Kota.
I was looking at the motorguide w55L (built in transducer). Thanks for the feedback. I have seen some negative reviews relating to the remote pedal communicating and turn motor noisiness. Come to find out, I would have a bigger challenge because I can't run my elite-7HDI without trying to get around the skeg. Also, tearing up the wire from the transducer while trolling through brush etc. Will I run into this issue with other trolling motors that have built in transducers. Thanks again.
Also, I'm still looking for a trolling motor (fairly new) in good condition around $300. 55lb and up. Looking for one soon as I need to get boat rigged and ready. If you have something please pm me your number so I can talk to you about what you have and can get pictures.
You will not be able to use the built in transducer on MK or MG for DI. They are 2d only. Go to the electronics section on main board. Look at the stickies at the top. One there about installing transducers.
Thanks. I will probably return my down imaging depth finder (elite 7 HDI) bc I like the newer trolling motors more than I like this depth finder. And it looks like whether it has a built in transducer or not, the transducer cable would get in the way when you go to dock the trolling motor. I don't want to limit my trolling motor options because of Down Imaging.
Hang, don't give up just yet. Go look at some those posts and on YouTube. You can install Humminbird unit on the Terrova and not have any problems with cable. Difference in cable size between bird and Low. Think you would like having the DI on front.
I had the W-55 for a couple of years. It came on the new boat. I found a used Terrova w/I-Pilot on craiglist. No comparision. Save your money and keep your eyes open for a used unit. I would give up my Mercury before I would give up my Terrova.
Thank you for the insight. I briefly looked last night (humm on terrova) and didn't see anything.
, but I'll look hardwe more next chance I get.
Had the 55 for 6 - 7 years it saved many leg cramps but I only used pod remote my partner liked the foot control remote nice thing was no cable lots of space without something under your feet did stay dry one time boat got away in wind at dock I had remote with me brought it back.
Good thing about moterguide xi5 you don,t have to have a unit to make it work.
sorry
I have the I-Pilot and use side and down imaging with it. There is a groove in the shaft you can run the cable through; you have to remove the head for this but it's simple. I've never had a problem with the cable getting in the way.
I have had both units
The MK terrova and I now have the Motor Guide xi5
If you are going to run Hummin bird The Terrova works easyer with the wire just like Southern Chuter says you can run the wire down the groove and a little silicone to hold the wire in. Should be some old post in the electronics forum on how this is done that's were I found it. The Lowrance wire is too large of a diameter to fit thru the groove.
I had some issues with an HB 788 hd di unit so when I upgraded boats I went with the Lowerance HDS touch 9 unit. So I went with the motor guide xi5 trolling motor.
The new xi5 models are great I have not have any issues it is very quiet and way faster response than the terrova and I fell the spot lock is way more accurate.
I also like the bump it 5' at a time feature. I was hoping to connect the xi5 to the touch 9 but I have not read enough reviews on that system yet.
Will it follow a map contour like the I pilot ? I hope this helps I would make my mind up on what electronics I was going to use first and then get the TM that works with the electronics the best.
From what I have read the ipiolt and the link with the mapping and everything HB and MK have a pretty good set up. But I do really like the xi5 better than the Terrova that I had.
