Arkansas Sportsman: Crappie club is all about fishing
Good article Jason!
I guess you have to have an online subscription to view it. I think it was in the paper yesterday.
I read it. I'll get hammered for this....... I don't do tournaments. Lots of reasons. Not adamant, just don't like participating. Fishing is more than that to me. BUT, after spending a few years on here.........and then reading what this guy said in the paper (and I'm sure he's a great guy, I just don't know him), I had to chuckle. You HAVE to tell where you caught 'em, exactly, how, how deep, what color, what time of day, etc. Seriously? I mean, I'm asking a serious question. Do the guys that I read about on this board DO that when they win these tournaments????
Clearly, there are Pros and then there is Me. I get that. (Heck, I bet a guy the other day that CP could catch 20 crappie on Lake Conway "on demand", any day, any time, and the guy thought I was crazy. I was willing to go big bucks, and that scared him off. But it's clear I think, that I'm right on that) So, I'd almost like to go to a weigh in just to hear the winner(s) tell me every detail of how they did it!!!
:biggrin
Yes Sir we do ask the top 3 teams many questions about how they fished, which area, what they used, and how they figure out what others did not! You should join us for the weigh in on Lake Conway March 7! There 's a lot of guys from Crappie.com that fish with us and lot of guys that just come to the weigh Ins. It is a much different pace then a Bass tournament! Thanks for asking
Jason
this is exactly what we do, you can learn something most of the time even if its just a small piece of the puzzle, thats one of the great things about fishing these tourneys you learn to find fish on new bodies of water under all types of weather conditions and times of the year, i have learned allot and it will teach you to think outside the box!!!!
Well, outstanding! It just seems.......um........."different" than what I see here. Not that here is bad, or anything of the sort. Just..........that's really different.
I may be there! Where is weigh in?
And thanks for the nice replies.
weight in will be at highway landing across from Baites Field and Stream
Have yall ever given any thought to maybe having a separate division for amateurs or weekend anglers or whatever you want to call em?
Guys that maybe feel like they'd be throwing their money away fishing against "pros".
not a single member that fish with this club makes a living fishin tourneys not sure what your definition of "pro" is but we dont have any , some have been fishing tournements for several years but all are just weekend anglers looking to improve there abilities and techniques to catch fish, good fun for anybody willing to put in the time make new friends and learn from others
I didn't really mean pro as in fished for a living.
If you've been fishing tournaments for several years (some of em as big as they get) and have sponsors, I think alot of people would consider them more than "just weekend anglers" though.
I didnt mean to ruffle your feathers and I sure didn't intend to start an argument but I've talked to a couple of guys at work about fishing one or two of these with me and thats exactly the response I got.
"Im not gonna throw my money away fishing against pros".
I just asked a question and Ill take your response as a no so thanks for the reply.
no feathers ruffled here just no novice division for such a small club at this time, even in the big tourneys the "pros" dont always win , allot of times its a "local " fishing their home lake that takes the top finish, its more about the comrodory and learning than anything for me , ive never considered it as throwing money away and i donate often, Lol!!!!
i fished my first tourney 2 years ago with this club and didnt know a single one of the guys that were fishing , now i feel i have made new friends and learned way more than i thought i could and also gave me a reason to fish new bodies of water and challenge myself to learn more
Ark man, don't be intimidated by jerseys or "sponsors". I'll double what Greg said, those tournaments are a circle of friends that get together and fish on set dates. I live over in Blytheville and I have had to try to learn new lakes to fish with these guys. I do not regularly fish the lakes that are fished most often in these tournaments but it doesn't bother me. I've learned a lot and I've made some good friends through this. It has been worth every penny spent and every mile driven.
Are there some good fishermen fishing? You darn right but I'd rather fish with good fishermen and learn from them.
That circle of friends in these tournaments has plenty of room to expand. Come fish with us!
Arkman, I haven't fished in a single tournament, but I've attended probably 90% of them since CACA was started. I take pictures for the club, simply because I am there and I believe it raises and enhances the profile of the club when the results are posted with photos. I've made some really good friends by being a member of CACA, even though I don't fish. Also, I have learned a lot about crappie fishing by attending the weigh-ins and hearing the winners talk about where they found the fish, how they caught them, etc. These guys are good crappie fishermen, but I don't think you would feel like you are donating because, as Greg said, sometimes they get beat by someone whose home lake they are fishing. I invite you to come out to one of our weigh-ins and enjoy the camaraderie for yourself, then get a partner and fish a tournament. I think you would enjoy it. CACA tournaments are more about enjoying some friendly competition, enjoying the camaraderie and learning something you didn't know. Look forward to seeing you out there.
Thank you for asking this question! We have had a lot of discussion about this and we will be adding a another division to the club and it will go in effect immediately!! I will post all the info in a separate post today!! Thank you you for asking and for others that have brought this up!
Thank you
Jason
Thats good to hear. I might be wrong but Ive got a feeling itll get at least a few more folks to participate.
Are they on this site or the CACA website?
