I might try Keystone tomorrow just for a change of pace. The last time I fished there was last winter in the CDC Tournament, and it was ugly. Has anyone tried it lately?

That's the last time I fished it and the first time I fished it and we won the tournament. Odie was telling me that someone was catching pretty good on the lake. WSD
There have been some isolated reports of decent catches from Keystone, but they are few and far between. An occasional big fish has been reported but no numbers that I am aware of. I have been out on Keystone 2 times since the first of the year and skunked both times (nothing new there, lol). Perhaps BigFin will chime in; I think he has been a few more times. Water level has been down and some ramps are unusable. Maybe you guys can get 'em fired up.
A fireman buddy of mine caught 25 before the bad weather hit, but that's the only report of heard in a long time.
We found them around pier 51 marina and the hwy 51 bridge/railroad tracks around structure anywhere from 15 to 25 fow. This was last month tho. Hope this helps.
I went today and just pretty much scanned. Today pretty much confirmed my assumption that Keystone is the worst lake on the entire Arkansas River. Glad you did good BigFin!
We have found a ton of structure around Appalachia Bay that were holding fish but have not fished any of it.
Woodworker give me a call anytime and we will make plans to go...
Well, I've actually had a couple pretty good days on Keystone. Caught a limit Thursday and 30 today. Thursday I caught a big girl over two in 13 ft. of water. Today fish were deeper and more scattered. I think if I was a spider rigger I could have cleaned house today.
What area of the lake were you fishing
Mid lake in between the Arkansas and Cimarron.
Boy that's a lot of area.
That's specific enough! Don't add any more details! Besides, tomorrow they will be somewhere else! I'm just glad you were able to catch some in Keystone; gives me hope for the future. :) Thanks for the report.
Done a little Catfishing on Keystone recently and had a excellent time. The fish were thick and hungry. Shad were very easy to get, one throw and you would have hundreds. Found fish in 22' of water all the way down to 4'. No huge fish, but a lot of good eaters. Large fish was 18.8, second largest was 15.4 and then a ton of 9-12 pound fish. We ended up keeping over 250 pounds of catfish. Bait was cut shad (cut in half and used head on threadfin and larger shad we used head and then mid section) Fished off the bottom with slip cork holding bait a foot to 18" off bottom. They were hammering it and setting the hook themselves using Double Action 8/0 and 5/0 hooks from Team Catfish. Guys if you catfish, these hooks are AWESOME!!!! There were times we had fish on 3 and 4 rods at once. Hoping to get boat back soon, so I can jump back into the crappie fishin. Until then... I will target some cats. We did pass over some good full standing trees in 40 and 50' of water that were loaded with hundreds of fish. Assuming crappie, but didnt toss a jig at them so its just an assumption. Also found several good lay downs I didnt know existed.

Josh, thanks for thinning out those catfish! Maybe now I can find a crappie! Lol And I'm glad to know the shad are plentiful-seemed like last year they were in sorta short supply.
Anyone know if Keyport Marina on Keystone made it through the Tornado this week? I was thinking about fishing from the dock there tonight.
As far as I know Keyport did have any damage. Ugly John's Marina on Cowskin was demolished! I think the tornado did not touch down until it got just east of Cleveland. You should be good to go! Lake level is about the same as it has been for the past few weeks-maybe up slightly. Two turbines on from 6-9 tonight-no other releases scheduled tonight. Good luck and hope this helps.
Still catching limits in 40 ft
