Fished Woodruff last Saturday and did pretty good. Had to fish in the dollar pads to catch fish slow trolling, spider rig. Lemon ice and orange/chart. worked for us. Good fishing and be blessed.
...And as always, tip it with a minnow.
Just pulled the boat in the shop after a couple of 80+ hour weeks. It's about 5 degrees with a wind chill of -20 and 1 foot of snow blowing and drifting. It was great fun pushing the boat on the ice and snow to get it up to the overhead door of the shop, but now it's in. I have to do some work on my rod holders and going to go through the carburetors and fuel pump, respool the reels and all that other good stuff.

Gear up and come on down... the water's fine! Get far away from that cold white stuff.
I entered the Powell's crappie tournament yesterday in Astor (first ever tournament). The fishing was tough but I made a plan and worked it all day and ended up in 4th place with a 7 fish total weight of 11 pounds 7.1 ounce.

Tel them they should advertise their tournament of crappie.com .....probably get a big turnout! Congratulations on the win!
You did quite well! I also like your fishing (pelican) partner in the background there.
I like it when a plan comes together. Good job and a good stringer. The pelican is the clean up crew. Just don't let him catch you nappin or he'll eat good and you wont!
nice catch, thanks for the pics.
Astor Group (Powells) did advertise last year - had lots of squirrely rules - number of
fish that could weigh in - number of persons per boat...... Had good turnout last year
over 50 i believe.
This year i heard only 17-18 came out......reason ?????
A few in our group fish with this group because of distance down to Okeechobee.
Have no idea who won or how many entries or type of payoff....
Would be interesting to know results of their tournament.
Gotta luv it when a fish'n trip turns out as well as you planned! WTG
They said it was run by someone else last year. This one was put on by Powell's. Rules, 2 people max per boat, 7 fish weigh, Leave shore at safe light (called by Powell), back on shore by 3 pm. $25 to enter. I got $50 for 4th, I think but am not sure that 1st paid $300. I think there was 18 - 20 boats. A man that was at the dock in the morning was talking about a couple of other tournaments not to far away so that pulled some entries. JC
My parents spend the winter in Astor every year and they've done pretty good with 32 two pound crappie in the boat so far. The best part? Every 2 pound plus fish was released to get even bigger! I was able to go down in January and lucked into the first 2# catch of the year. We ended up with 3 big ones that day on Dexter.
