Going to try bay springs tomorrow any body got any advice on what techniques to use? Depth to fish? Minnows? Jigs? Any help is appreciated. Also got some bamboo buckets and a few C trees taking to sink any suggestions on depth to sink those? Sink close to main lake points? Flats?
Don't know a whole lot about the lake, but if it were me I would go deep and slow.
Its a whole different ball game....very clear water and very deep.....I just never have caught on over there. Those guys that catch over there are fishing brush piles 38 to 40 ft. deep with 1/80 oz. white jigs with a small BB size split shot about 18 inches up from the jig. I am half way between Bay Springs and Sardis so.....guess where I go.

Sorry I missed your thread. I can give some late advice for future reference anyway. A week ago the fish were in 44 to 54 feet of water. I had to be fishing at least 38 to 40 feet deep over any structure/cover you can find. You have to fish the main lake in winter. All the shad are schooled in deep water on the main lake basin. There are few man made structures this deep. You can follow creeks that are 44+ feet deep any stumps/ brush you find should hold fish. You need to use bold colors that deep. It is a lot like fishing muddy water. Like what was mentioned already. Light jigs with a big split shot 18 inches above is the ticket. I use 3/8 above jig when fishing this deep.
well i gave it a shot but didnt do any good....did get some C trees sank in about 30 FOW though...
I found and marked some nice brush in 40-45 FOW but didnt do any good using minnows.....man its tough fishing that deep, u have to drop it straight down on the brush no picking up and moving around that deep
Bay Springs has got to be one of the clearest bodies of water in Mississippi and one of the hardest to fish.
Looking over my calender of events it will be the week before or after Father's day before I'll be there for a few days. Crappie should be back into the 30 foot range by that time.
Never tried baysprings. There are some crappie brotherhood club or something like that around somewhere that fishes baysprings Iam surprised they haven't chimed in to help you out.
I'm no fishermen at all hardly but I fished deep with Joel there one time. He loaned me rod and all I still couldn't catch them! Lol think between me and two other boats they caught 20+ each I caught 2 lol its tough but them guys are very good!
I have never fished for anything that didn't have whiskers that deep. If it were me though, I would drop it down and let it hit bottom, reel up 2 turns, and mark my line with a marker. That's about the only way your going to be able to figure a pattern.
