I currently am running a lowrance elite 5 and really like it. Thinking about putting it on trolling motor. Question is which side scan should I go with (best bang for my buck). Problem is ive never been able to mess with any of them, figure I should stay with lowrance because I can navigate(settings/pages) pretty good with it. Looking for a little input.
I am curious also. I have the Elite 5 hdi on the trolling motor and want to put a side scan in the console to replace the old 2 d unit.

It really depends on how much you are comfortable spending, bet if you post a price range you will get more detailed responses........
There are some very good deals now on the HDS 7 Touch bundle, they may get better as the Gen 3 Touch get more plentiful. Call Brian at BBG Marine and pick his brain.
I would stay with lowrance .seeing you already have one and can link together. Not sure if you can link a elite to a hds but I think so.
Go with what you know or already have if it is good. Lowrance is good for networking and using on the new Ulterra Trolling Motor if you want to go that way as well. I have Humminbird and will buy another HB for the front as well. I already mounted an extra transducer I had on my TM. Just need my new unit to plug it in to. I will say this, that if you have bad eyes you may want to go with a bigger screen so you can see easily while trolling for hours on end. The 5" will work for a budget but the 7" and bigger is where you will want to be so you can see all the piles you get on.
Remember that SI on a trolling motor is harder to read if the trolling motor is constantly moving back and forth as the signal is moved all over the place. Need to keep TM pointed in one direction when using the SI. I have seen some images people did by sitting still and turning the TM to get a side image. Basically it gives you a "somewhat 360" if you see it...

I tried to get the Hds 7 with lss2 bundle at bps on sale for 899, but when I went in they had already sold out. anyone know where I can get one for this sales price, it is not on bps web site.

I run HD 12's.......I would have a small motor on a boat and all my coins with electronics. Amazing pieces of equipment. There is a Gen 3 this year. Quicker, clearer and better mapping if you want to make them. I will drive around with side scan and only fish after I find them. Just keep your side scan at one setting so you can understand what you are seeing easier. Get Dr. Sonar DVD's and you will be ahead of the game.
