Where is this?
Im guessing after the zone closes for duck? They may try to hunt geese in there too, which closes soon anyways. Be careful on the launch, if you go too far back you will fall off the ramp. Its really small, I mean like if your trailer is too big your tires will rub the side of the docks lol.. I believe its 5 dollars (maybe less) to use the ramp.
I know the guy. He caught them on yoyo's. Family members can set yoyo's after the duck season closes. It's open for fishing now. I've had 2 reports from fishermen. Neither one was good. It's always best on a cloudy day for some reason. but when they are biting, you can catch a bunch. An early season tactic is fishing jigs under a cork around the tupelo gum trees. I'll probably hit it next week, if the weather is right.
a lot of similarities between chicot and millers.......both hard nuts to crack.......
I am not positive about it's origin, but this is what I was told. Back in the 40's, a group of 5 farmers had property that surrounded this natural low area that always held some water. A bayou flowed thru it. they decided to get together and build a dam that effectively created a water shed that they all used to flood their fields for rice production. One of these farmers' names was a Miller, hence Miller's Lake. Since then, it became a fabulous fishery and bird sanctuary, especially ducks! My father was a member of the duck hunting club for a few years back in the 50's. He and his partner killed so many ducks that it became too much of a burden for my mother to clean all of these ducks each day and she finally told him, "you kill'em, you clean'em." i think that was his last year in the club. I make 3 or 4 trips a year, but I never do REAL well. But I know many people who do.
I'll be settING yoyos at chicot.
I live 5 miles from Millers and fish it a few times during early spring. Bass fished yesterday from daylight to noon. Not much biting. Water was 54 deg. with a stout south wind. Talked to several other boats out there, they had nothing either.
