I just received this information from an extremely reliable source.
CHIRP is NOT true CHIRP. ( I guessed at this since the electronics is built into the HDS unit and uses the same old skimmer transducer) To me, this is very deceptive.

Having computer problems. More news to follow.
Gen 2 is to be discontinued. Sooner than later.
Sales channels cut.
Rumor that Lowrance is for sale.
As for me, wait and see. I'm sure not liking the way things are looking. I'm hoping Garman and Ray Marine get more involved with freshwater fishing. I like everything I've seen with these two companies. Not so much from L or HB.
The Airmax CHIRP transducer is no longer in the Lowrance catalog. At least I couldn't find it in the new one I received yesterday. More proof Lowrances CHIRP is NOT real.
I really don't see the benefit of having chirp in shallow water fishing. Deep sea I can though.
I agree Travis. I just don't like a manufacturer mislead me like Lowrance is trying to do.
Lowrance isn't the only company pushing this chirp in shallow water fishing. I couldn't justify $200 more for this when getting my Elite 7.
Why would you have to add an additional $200? The new Elite 7 has CHIRP built in and uses the same skimmer transducer, as I understand it.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Non chirp elite 7 was $549 at BPS and the chirp was like $749. The 2 are different units that I guess use the same transducer.
Here ya go. Couldn't find the non-gold version but you get the point.

Looking at the new BP catalog, the New for 2015
Elite 7x Chirp with 83/200/455/800 (sonor only) $549.99.
Elite 7 Chirp 83/20/455/800 $699.99.
I believe the non-x unit has the HDI transducer, the x unit does not.
So, the new Elite 7 for 2015 adds chirp built in but, uses the same transducer as the older, non-chirp units.
I could be wrong?
Both have the HDI transducer as they both have 83/200(sonar)-455/800(DI) KHz listed. The non-HDI transducer would be 83/200(sonar) only. The difference between the two you have listed is the X is non GPS therefor no chart plotting or way points. Still about $150 more for the CHIRP over the non-CHIRP like I have. They have so many models of the Elite brand that it can be confusing. I even seen the GPS version with just sonar only. Who would do that??? If I'm forking out that type of money I'm forking out a little bit more to get DI too.

I'm guessing there is trouble in Lowrance Land.
