Or if you fish a couple lakes in a different region....
Well now ... Ain't that interesting ...?!!
Rickie
Think lake prices vary. Lake Somerville TX. ~$20. Sam Rayburn ~$30. Others $10.
and you have at least a 9 series HB
Yep Steve, got excited until I saw I would have to buy new unit to use. Really cuts a lot of folks out of the picture real quick.
These are Lakemaster Charts that you can buy and download BY LAKE to your Humminbird unit IF it is in the list of approved models. The cheapest is $9.95 and go up to $29,95 a lake (like Sam Rayburn!). I bought one to see the difference and will test it thoroughly when I get on the lake. It looks a bit different with the way the depths are marked so i will see if there is any big difference from the Navionics card I have of ALL the lakes.
To download and use all you need is an SD card. Put it in your unit and go to settings and then "Encrypt Card". Once the card is encrypted, you go to the website and register, buy and download the maps to your encrypted card. This same card can be used to store your waypoints, tracks, routes, images, recordings, etc.
Easy to do but is the price worth it?! Stay tuned!
Kickingback .....let us know for sure how good the maps are....You may be the first to get any testing posted online.....You could be an overnight celebrity..:biggrin
Shut the front door cool
I don't have pics right now but I did check the map of the lake I downloaded and I did not see any discernible differences in the depth lines and overall look from Navionics maps. It just basically looks the same to me and I do not see the benefits of getting this unless you can't afford the Navionics card with ALL the lakes you want on it. If not then you have to buy each lake separately and that can add up. I will be sticking with my Navionics card for now.
I fish 3 lakes in Mississippi, and only one when i go down. Got to be cheaper for me anyway
Chart Select is for those that fish different lakes in two regions....Or if you are going to lets say be on vacation and visiting a lake once in a while in another region than your home region.
The other advantage would be the additional features that Lakemaster has on the birds. If you have one lake you fish a lot that has a lot of water level fluctuations....or you want to do a follow the contour with the i-pilot link.
The supported units list has grown quite a bit...I fish the Mississippi river 90% of the time...and only 2 pools of it. For $20 I can get the charts I need, add $15 for the microSD cards and that's $35. Saves me about $90 over buying the entire Lakemaster card. Now when there is an AutoChart in microSD I can have an easier time of talking my wife into that one lol
Start talking matzilla.
We are now using the mSD sized memory cards for the ZeroLines mapping cards. Problem is that I don’t know of a way to tell which it is that you will be buying, so you may want to contact the Humminbird Customer Service folks and ask them. 1-800-633-1468
Greg, I'm downloading the 2 river pools I need tonight from chart select - just picked up a pair of cards last night and will be updating my Helix this evening. But I'd like to have AutoChart to custom map the smaller lakes/ponds that I fish as well. I'll be adding that to my line up by the end of this year.
To tell you the truth I wish HB had an all in one solution that I could use to manage everything with. Waypoints, routes, tracks, screen shots, recordings, maps, software, etc all in one pc program. I'd like to insert my Lakemaster Card into my laptop, browse the map, mark waypoints on the map, have that waypoint automatically saved to a temp folder, insert a blank sd card, export the waypoint and transfer to my head unit. I'd like to be able to take an image file (existing pdf of a lakemap) and import it to this program to view and mark waypoints then transfer those the same. I would LOVE to be able to take maps of my local lakes/ponds and push them to my HB unit. I wish I could have a way to select a waypoint and see the related DI screenshot from that waypoint without digging back through my recordings...some linking would be awesome. A lot of people would rather tinker around with things like this on a computer vs sitting in your boat late at night lol! HB PC gets me halfway there, but it could be taken a lot further.
Here is an example...for bodies of water that the user has an existing map such as lake belvedere iowa:
http://www.iowadnr.gov/Portals/idnr/...maps/bdl54.pdf
I could open the pdf in the HB application
Mark some waypoints on this map in the application
Overlay the map on say Google earth by defining GPS anchor points
Export the map image file, gps anchor points, and waypoints to a card
Insert the card into my Helix
The Helix reads the map just like a Lakemaster chip
Right now I do this process on my phone using an Android Map called simply CustomMaps...I am tired of using my phone instead of my fish finder lol
