Northwest tips?
Hey CDC!
I've been lurking around here for quite some time now.. I am still learning the tricks of the trade. Or at least I have thought.
I haven't had much luck at all catching crappie! I've tried a few times in different places. The only place I have lucked up and caught any has been on Caddo Lake around the oil platforms.
Ive given McDade and Whitehouse on the river, Port of Bistineau, and Caddo lake shots. Used shiners, plastic jigs, hair jigs, and even small crank baits a shot.
Can any of you fine fellas point a lost soul in the right direction?
Thanks!
DC

Welcome to the forum. I wish I could help, but lately I haven't been able to do any good either. I fish Ivan Lake in Bossier Parish a lot. For the past couple of weeks the bite has been slow to non-existent. Only thing I know to do is to keep tryin' and keep reading the forums.

good advice RMG. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. It seems like it's that time of year. It won't be long before fishing should get much better as we get closer to Spring.

Thanks RMG, I will keep at it. I'm going to install a fish finder on my boat in the next week or so to try to help me find underwater structure and all. Maybe that will give me a little more of an edge. :biggrin
Thanks for the welcome PawPaw and fishervet!

Thats a great Idea..A fishfinder is a must...doesnt have to be a fancy one - something that will show your depth, and let you know theres structure. Find a brushpile, toss a buoy out on it, then try everything in the tacklebox till you get fish. :biggrin
-
Haha, that is what I have learned through the reading and watching videos. I lucked up an got one for Christmas, going to work on installing it over the week.

Going with an established crappie fisherman or a crappie guide will save you a lot of time. It would save you a lot of trial and error. The most important part is learning where not to fish and where you will probably find them. If you keep at it, it will come.

Thanks Storm, I will have to look in to that.

:welcome DC......thanks for signing up......we have a lot of great guys in your area.....watch for their comments on your local lakes......your fish/depth finder will be a great tool.....
-
Thanks Prefers Shiners. I will keep a close eye on what others are saying. Hopefully this spring I will be able to get more luck, I only started trying to crappie fish over this past summer. I have managed to catch one! :biggrin :Rofl

That's how many I caught today...and he was a dink.

:welcome to the forum, you are fishing the right places so keep trying those lakes, reading the forum and it will come around.
again welcome.

Welcome to the forum! The biggest bream I have ever caught came out of Caddo. That's one pretty lake. Like the others have said, a fish finder will help a lot in finding structure.

Welcome to the forum.....Bass Pro in Bossier City has two weekends coming up with "CRAPPIE MADNESS" at the end of January and first week of Feb. No doubt you can get lots of pointers for free and the opportunity to meet other fishermen from your area....could be a big help to improving your chances.

Thanks Guys, I look forward to learning more and getting to know y'all. Hopefully someday we will cross paths on the water! I will check out the even at BPS.
