Kayak Trip Report, Cotaco Creek Sat, Limestone Creek Sun

I fished Cotaco Creek Saturday with a single pole on laydowns. Fish were deep, 6 to 8 feet with best bait being a 1/16 oz white Marabou Jig. I kept 10 but fish were few and far between.

I went back out Sunday morning to Limestone Creek and found Crappie all over, catching a limit in less then two hours. The fishing got even better as the water warmed from the low 40s into the mid 40s and finally the upper 40s by afternoon today. Best bait was again the 1/16 oz white Marabou jig. Today I was spider rigging 6 poles anywhere out of the current.

were you fishing limestone creek or out in the bay?

riverboss, the Crappie were in the old pits that connect to the creek. The water was a little warmer and out of the current. Basically if it held 24 inches of water there were fish. I caught lots of small bass and gills also.

Sounds like a good weekend. That's where I wanted to be myself, but work said otherwise. Is Arrowhead Landing the only place to put in there? I have heard some bad stories with break-ins and have been reluctant to go there.

There are some closer areas, but takes some dragging. I fish from a kayak. You'll be able to get into the area easily starting 10 FEB when Wheeler NWR opens the gates. Look on google earth for Pryor Rd, Madison, AL

Wondered why I bought a boat instead of a kayak, then I remembered the last time I tried I was looking at the fish eye to eye more than fishing for them. Again, thanks for the info. Maybe I'll have some to share soon.

Bob D, I get luck more than my share but Sunday was a very, very good day. It's been a while since I caught and released that many fish. It seemed like the day was full of doubles and triples. The strange thing is 9 out 10 fish were Blacks.

That muddy water in there warms quickly compared to the rest of the reservoir, there are a lot of blacks that will follow that bait in there.

The skinny water cools down and muddies quicker also, guess I'll stay home and work on the "honey do" list.
