Hey guys what brands of head cement are you using and how are you applying it? Also will superglue not do the same thing?
I use Loon & Sally Hansen the loon is high price I think but go a long way but It hard to beat jigs last for ever and a slick finish. but sally will do the same but over time brake down loon want. But I use the two. superglue will work fine use a lot of that to.
I use super glue and clear nail polish.
GST concrete sealer for thread finishing and sealing eyes etc. For painted jigs I still use D2T epoxy

So you say the Sally Hanson hard as nails is what you are hardening your thread with? I never thought of that mainly because i thought it would break the thread down.

Sally's . If you want something thicker just leave the cap off for an hour at a time til it thickens to the consistency you want. Some head cement I have seen at fly shops is very thick and some epoxies are also that way, better for building a head on a streamer. For locking thread after the tie I use Sally's also, thinned 50/50 with acetone. Hasn't failed so far. Also want to mention that you can trim the thread too short after the tie, not leaving enough for traction to hold it together. The same with chenille. Too short and it can be pulled free after several fish have the chance to chew on it. Some of my early mistakes. I apply the post tie sally with the needle bottle available through anywhere that sells tying supplies. Thicker stuff I have put on and manipulated with a toothpick if I wanted it heavier on one side than the other. A turner helps when there's a lot of stuff to dry and it wants to sag to one side.
If you have read the stuff at the top of this board, like for new tyers and such, you probably know I make my own so don't buy any and have only bought supplies one time in 10 years and still have a life time supply. Also no superglue is not the answer and I only use it on special type ties.

I like it for threads as it is very thin and soaks in and seals/hardens very well. I also use it for cranks and poppers.

The 30 minute version works well but you need a turner or you will have a mess
Long time ago I bought a Qt. Of Clear High Gloss Lacquer and a Qt. Can of MEK and both are still over half full easy. I mix about 50/50 in one of the little plastic bottles that has a metal tip and plastic cap. One good drop where the finish is and done. Dries almost instantly, well really fast!Quote:

Think any good thinner will do. I actually bought Crown MEK and the Lacquer came from Lowe's, probably both came from Lowe's, but not positive about the MEK as that was over 10 years ago now, LOL! I believe I still have enough to make it a life time supply.Quote:

I use the Dave's flexment from Rainey's. It has always worked for me and does not leave a hard spot on your jigs like regular head cement or Sally's will. I still use Sally's for thread necks and sealing eyes on non painted heads. I have found the sally's will turn some powder paint yellow. So for that I use clear vinyl to seal my eyes on painted heads.
Attachment 186328Attachment 186329 We have hybrid stripers in our home lake and the only thing that will last after they hit your jig is loctite!! They usually take your jig away!! I know if it will hold up to them it should hold for a crappie.
Jackie I never want anyone to feel where I put my drop of glue and I want it to soak is super fast and dry just as fast. Super glue is not something I use on a regular basis and really not needed. I only use super glue when tying in rabbit strips because of the way that works. S for me super glue is a mush less used item here. I also know if you put a drop of that on where you finish the chenille will forever have that hard spot I just hate!

Only use Sally's once in a while. Do your whip finish right and I don't think you need it.
I also make my own Flexament, but only use it on thread neck jigs and coat the entire thread with this. I don't even want people to tell I used glue at all! Unless it's a thread neck, LOL!Quote:
