As the near year is finally upon us I've been plotting places I would like to fish this year. I fell in love with Gaines Creek last summer and have plans of hitting it several times this year. I have a 12' x 48" jon boat that packs a punch and can get places glass boats can't. I'm on the hunt for other crappie producing creeks in Oklahoma. If any fellow members know of other crappie producing creeks in Oklahoma please share here.
Travis, put Rock Creek on your list. It is South and West of Crowder. There is a Rock Creek exit just past the Crowder exit and it has a decent ramp. Your boat is perfect for Rock Creek. I've only fished it twice, but am planning on hitting it more this year. Gaines Creek is my next target. Enjoyed your comments at the Crappie & Coffee yesterday.......dave

There's also the little creek I told you about by Hitchita on north end of Eufaula. Bring your little bitty creek crasher up and I'll show you where it's at!😄

When I was young all my crappie fishing was done in the Poteau river (way before it flows into Wister) and Black Fork creek. I've also had good luck at several of the creeks draining into Texoma and Kerr. Most creeks, if they have any depth, are good.
I know some guys that say the Verdigris is the best place in the state for big crappie. No personal experience.
Mill Ck west of Eufaula Town on Hwy 9. It's full of wood and some pigs call it home......Ranger
I have fished Mill Creek, but only from the bank. A good friend (long deceased) who grew up at Eufaula always said that Mill creek was a great place to fish from a boat. He liked the wood, and by the cattails in the spring. He was always going to take me there for crappie and out on the flats drifting whole shad for the slimy type of fish, but his wife always said he was too old to take out the boat.

That was my stompin ground as a kid too, haven't fished black fork in several years. Poteau river was always a favorite of mine and my Dad's.

Great, great stuff guys. Looks like a lot of creeks off Eufaula are excellent. Having troubles locating the following:
- Black Fork Creek
- Big Creek
Black Fork Creek runs out of Arkansas and into the Poteau river near Hodgen, OK.
Big Creek. East of Nowata on 60. Turn North on N4190 Rd. It will bring you to the ramp on left. You can go down stream to the Vertigis. <*)}}}><

Where is the best place to launch at Coal Creek? I can't seem to be able to find a ramp anywhere. This looks to be a ramp but I don't know.

A Lake Eufaula South Map might be helpful. Bass Pro has them.
Launch at Juniper Point. It is VERY tricky with submerged roadbeds and a crooked Chanel main lakeside.Once to the bridge,,, ya fine. <*)}}}><Quote:

Ok. That's quite a drive on my jon boat. Doable though.
Nip there are 2 places you can lauch your jon boat in Coal creek, 1. is righ by the 69 bridge on the SW side use google maps to see how and drive down there to it. The other is about 3 miles up the creek near 113 bridge. It is a slough right by 113 bridge. the water levels must be around normal to get from the slough to the creek. You can also see it on google maps. If you have a 4x4 it will help. EB

That's Potts Landing ramp. Very popular and heavily used. Is that where Ranger prematurely launched?
If you are looking to fish up Poteau River, Conser Landing would be a better place to launch. There is a concrete ramp that is just as steep as the one at Potts, but the parking area is dirt. If the river has been up it can be slick. The ramp can get covered with mud and be slick as well. 4-wheel drive is never a bad idea on any of Wister's ramps.
Where is Conser Landing located?
I don't know how to post a map link, but if you keep panning east, up Poteau river from the edge of the map you posted, you will come to the mouth of Conser creek on the south side of the river. It is marked on Google Earth. You will see county rd E1498 running down to the river from the south west. Where it hits the river is Conser Landing. You access E1498 from county rd 156 (Reichert/Summerfield Rd.) You can access 156 from the west off of U.S. 271 at Summerfield, or from the east from U.S. 59 at Hodgen.

That's your Huckleberry! The river is navigable for another couple of miles upstream. Beware of Conser creek. There is a huge mud bar in the mouth that can cause you some problems if the water is any below normal.

My wife says the same thing about the Oklahoma river in downtown OKC. If the fish swim and look to be healthy should be no problems eating. Of course I don't eat much fish, just love to fish.

Wister is basically a large open sewer. Three municipalities with a combined population of approx. 10,000 and a large poultry processing plant discharge minimally treated effluent into the system. There are also hundreds of poultry farms in the basin that for years have applied untreated litter to the pastures in the area.Quote:
