What are the best grub/jig colors to use for Crappie on the Suffolk lakes... Thanks!
I have done best with pearl especially on sunny days. Black/pink can work on cloudy days. On Burnt Mills the color does not seem to matter as much.
Welcome aboard Wellswings
Welcome and I like blue ice
Both are good answers. Greens tend to work well in the spring.
when I get on a good school of crappie, I can have 6 rods rigged up with 6 different colors. once I catch one, I can catch one on every cast with a different color each time! Some days when trollin 12 rods, I'll end the day with one color on most rods, cause thats the color they hittin best. But color is usally the last consideration I pay attention to. Depth, Speed, location, action an vibration seem to be more important to the fish...you can thro the best color ever out where there ain't any fish an you won't catch any...you can thro the ugliest color ya ever seen out where there are hundreds of fish an one of them fools will hit it!
Thanks to all!!!
Bright colors on bright days. Dark colors on dark days.
I agree with a lot of what Fishdoc says. I fished with him once, he learns quick. And if he says ugly works, he should know! Bet there ain't a unbroken mirror in his house.
I sell Tripple Threat 2 inch grubs and shad in the color "884 money" in most of my online VA orders. (It works in NC also, I also use it).
Monk
Only caught one on a jig/grub today.. (Pearl/Chart curly tail)... Seemed to like Minnows better... Slow day, just enough for dinner...
WELLS,THEY MIGHT LIKE MINNOWS BEST BUT TOO MANY WAYS TO FISH A JIG TO KNOW FOR SURE,I USUALLY BEAT MOST ALL THAT FISH WITH ME BUT ONE OF MY FRIENDS IS BEATING ME MOST OF THE TIME LATELY BUT I HAVE GOT CLOSE TO HIS STYLE OF FISHING IN THIS COLD WATER,BEFORE IT GOT THIS COLD 2 MONTHS AGO I WAS BEATING HIM ALSO,HE IS HUMBLING ME ,ALSO ROY DID IT A COUPLE OF TIMES ALSO AND I HAD TO ADAPT TO HIS STYLE,AS SAID BEFORE SO MANY WAYS TO FISH A JIG AND WHEN U THINK U HAVE THEM ALL JUST CARRY A FRIEND WITH U AND ONCE IN A WHILE HE WILL HUMBLE U
Today, blue and pearl BBGS was the producer. Caught 15 this afternoon in deep water near bottom.
Most have already covered it, but John Deere (green) and Blue/silver seem to work for me.
Fishdoc and GeneC are right, when I'm fishing I keep lots of rods in the boat but here's the kicker all are white or green. But the biggest difference is I keep 1/32, 1/24, 1/16, 3/32, & 1/8 oz Jigheads on different rods. Sometimes watching the line as a 1/32 falls will get a bite , sometimes counting down a 1/16 then swiming it slow and steady works.
We'll get them in two weeks Mike!
