I got an Echomap 70S for well below 500. Also got their Lake Vu HD Ultra map chip. Will use this for ice fishing this winter and as a secondary unit in boat this spring. If it works out to be better than my Bird system. Will purchase the 2015 model 93 SV due for release next month.
Instead of investing heavy like I did in Humminbird. At this point I am not totally satisfied with my Humminbirds. After hearing so much good about Garmin I figured I would at least try one. Instead of jumping in whole hog though. Figured I would limit investment at first to ensure satisfaction on my part first. If the Garmin doesn't do the job. I shouldn't lose too much if I sell it later.
Anyway should make an interesting angling year for me. By the way the updating the units software is a lot easier with the Garmin unit. Different but more straight forward.
