Those of you who are running double jig rigs this time of year, what weight jigs are you running and which types do you prefer. I like a 1/16 round head on bottom and a 1/32 above about a foot. It works for me but most I see have the heavier jig above the light one. Which do you prefer? Also do most of you tie a loop for the bottom jig?

Hmmm I would think a heavier jig on top would promote tangling. When I use Jigs I put the heavier one on the bottom or use the same weight. For Minnows I like to simply tie the top hook (with leader) about 1.5' above the bottom ones. If you are moving around you will still need to retie after a hour or so.
I've been experimenting with a heavy egg sinker on the bottom with 2 very light jig heads (or even un-weighted hooks) above in the usual fashion.
How is that working for you shad?
That sounds like a modified drop shot rig. Do the unweighted jigs work ok?
Red boat is right. If you put the heavier jig above the lighter jig, it will drop faster and get tangled.
I use two 1/4 oz. Jigs to get them down faster. I tie the top one in a loop so it hangs free and tie the bottom one direct. I haven't retired in a couple of weeks since I use 20 lb. Braided line. Works for me.
I use a couple rods with jigs tied I'll use 2 1/16 or 1/32 oz jig heads with a 1/4 or 3/8 oz sinker. This is when I'm trolling.
Chief do you use a mono leader or tie your jigs direct?
So far, I like it. Most of the fish I've been seeing are right on the bottom. This rig makes it real easy to stay in contact with the bottom. When the fish get more suspended, it may not be the best choice...We'll see.Quote:

I like to take the time to tie double rigs on weekends I can't fish. I use a tiny swivel at the top, then tie about a foot of line below that. I then tie the smallest three way swivel I can find then tie a gold #2 hook or 1/16 jig with 8-12" of line. On the other hole in the three way I use about 15" of line, looping through a 3/8 barrel weight about 5 times, and terminate with a 1/16 jig. It's a pain to tie, but for me it's worth it. I store the rigs on a piece of foam pool noodle. I also don't use heavy leader. 6 or 8 lb fluorocarbon works just fine, and I catch a lot of toothy pickerel, and I can't remember ever losing one to broken line. And if I get hung up it usually breaks at the barrel weight or the three way swivel, so I usually save some of the rig. You can Google search images for an improved Capps and Coleman rig, that's pretty much what it is. If you're fishing deep water a heavier barrel weight would probably be needed. Around here you'd be hard pressed to find water more than 15'.
