What is the correct way to measure a 10 in crappie? Which measuring board do you use?
Is it mouth shut, lower jaw to pinched tale, or fork, or just the open tail? Me and Jackie need answers quickly. Pictures will help too.
Ive always been told if theres any way you can make it touch, it counts.
Check the AGFC fishing guide for the correct way to measure a fish. Pictures are worth a thousand words. I have always been told to make sure that it is 0.25 inch longer to protect from shrinkage. Personally I will only keep if it in 10.5 inches.
^^^^^^probably better to listen to this guy though
I am in Bama but the only time I have been checked the Game Warden used my Crappie checker
Length Limit – Minimum Length Limit : The shortest length of a fish of a designated species that can be kept. MAXIMUM LENGTH LIMIT: The maximum length of a fish of a designated species that can be kept. PROTECTED LENGTH LIMIT: A size limit that prohibits anglers from keeping fish within a designated size group. Unless otherwise specified, all fish are measured from the front of the lower jaw with the mouth closed to the tip of the tail with tail lobes pressed together when laid flat on a rule. All fish not meeting the length limit requirements for a particular water or species must be immediately released into the water where caught.
ALWAYS! Give em a extra .5. If you put them on ice they will shrink.
mouth closed , pinched tail
If they are that close why keep em? Its not worth a ticket, just toss em back.
I have 1/4 inch red line painted behind the 12 inch line on my measurer. (Big 4) If he won't go above the red line he go's back. I have rechecked fish caught early morning and cleaned that late afternoon. Some will shrink 1/4 inch. At Enid a short fish is about $155.00. Those are expensive fish. Too rich for my blood.
Shrinkage + inaccuracy of measuring devices can = short fish fine :banghead
I use a Golden Rule measuring board ... and according to my tape measure it's "short" by 1/4" to the 10" line.
Mouth closed/tail pinched is the rule in KY, and the CO's use a Golden Rule measuring board .... so I make sure my fish are at least 10.5" long (on lakes with a 10" size limit).
Check your measuring devices with a tape measure/ruler ... you might be surprised at how accurate/inaccurate they really are !! :twocents
... cp :kewl
Heard the story from down south about a woman doing that with a bass. According to the story, the woman was fishing out of a boat and the people coming up on her couldn't see what was going on, all they could here was a big "KAWHOOOMP" from time to time. When they were able to see her, they said she would "KAWHOOOMP" and remeasure. If they didn't make it then, she would throw them back.:Rofl I'm suspecting there are many versions of this same story.
Im a I :biggrin
" I "
If it's close enough to measure it's not big enough to keep unless your in a tournament !!! Let them grow up #!!!!
Agent D-10 AGFC Undercover Special Conway Ops. Do you feel Lucky...Well do YA!!! That crappie better be over 10 inches. HEHE....
Y'all are too funny! Lol! I am honored that y'all have entrusted me with well being of Lake Conway. After all it is my job and as y'all know, I love my job! While i have an influence over the management of the lake, i do not have any authority over the enforcement of these regs. I am always undercover while on the lake. Any time I see a violation on the lake, I report it to enforcement and y'all should too. I have even gone as far as taking video of violations. Record boat numbers, descriptions and what ever you think that enforcement may need to correct the problem. If you don't want to send it directly to the violation hotline, send it to me and I will make sure that it gets to the right person. I know that some of y'all already do this. Thanks! So take this as your official recruitment into the Lake Conway Special Ops program with me. Lol! Here are the signs that we put up around the lake today. What do y'all think?

10-4 Sir, can I have the code name "Barney" with only one silver bullet, do we get a badge?
I'm in !!! ;)
signs look good Matt must have scared everyone away today, didnt see a single boat in the parking lot at Dano's on the way home
I saw the new sign at the Hi-Way Landing launch, but didn't see any in the 89 bridge area where the bank fishers go down under to fish. The sign looked great.
Unfortunately, I did not need reminding today since I fished about 4 hours without so much as a bite. The current from the drawdown made me think I was on the main body of the river.
I agree 89 bridge would be a good spot for one posted
There is a sign at the 89 Bridge Parking lot. Got it covered!
I put out signs out at 13 of the access areas today. The remaining 5 will be out out tomorrow. Also, it is not the norm to post a sign every time there is a regulation change. If we did, there would be signs every where. This is what the fishing guidebook is for. We just decided to post these signs on Conway as a curtesy to the public, since crappie fishing is such a big part of Lake Conway Sign placement may not be the most optimal location. For example, do you know how hard it is to drive a sign post in rip rap or other rocks? So we had to chose the next best thing.
D10, what about the double bridges in Saltillo area where Palarm Creeks flows into the lake. A lot of people pull over and fish this creek, is it considered part of the lake since it is a main artery of the lake?
I like the signs Agent D-10 Thanks for all the hard work you do
Did you guys get signs up down there as well? And thanks for your hard work!
