See the fish ,catch the fish, I'm with you . I'm a HB guy no need to upgrade if it's still working. I'm still killing deer with 15 yr old bow, the deer are still dying no need to speed thousand on a new bow can't kill them anymore lol. Nice picture

I would guess those are indeed the dock posts starting in the left water column at about the 18ft SI Range line ...Quote:

OK ... I can grasp that. But, why would the fish or trees show up "above" the dock posts ?? If the SI signal is 90deg/side, why wouldn't it show a solid object (that rises above the water's surface) reaching all the way to the center line/prop wash image ?? Don has the range set at 50' ... so if the dock is around 20' away from the transducer, it would seem that it should show the posts going all the way to the surface (or at least a image above the ball of fish).Quote:

The dock posts are approx. 18ft from the xducer ... Therefore painting the structure as starting approx. 18ft to left of the center line ...Quote:

I agree ... Vertical posts are difficult to discern in an SI image ...

One last question, May have been answered. I see fish on both sides of the si image. This tells me the the school was directly under the boat.
If if was just on one side, it would show only on that side? Or am I nuts.
It could have been a school so big as to be under the boat AND around the poles?
I could be wrong, but I think the fish are under the boat, kind of of hanging off the edge of were the water is getting deeper and the dock is just to the left.some of the fish are probably around under the dock, but most are not

I don't know that number off the top of my head, Rickie may have it in some of his information. It's widely known that HB side scan is closer to 90* than Lowrance, partly why HB units have greater SI range.Quote:

I've been starting to follow these types of post because I'm thinking about investing in one but beginning to believe I'm not smart enough. I understand where crappiepappy is coming from does boat speed have any thing to do with it? Could the thin dock post at the surface level already been past by the sonar beam before it was returned causing an incomplete picture?
Kos, I'm not smart enough to "photoshop"...nonono I do like the HB Amber 1 & 2 better than the Lowrance Tan color:ThumbsUp but a nice HB user(Wayne P) is helping me on using the darker Lowrance palette. He told me how to lighten it up and I'm going to try his suggestion next time out.Quote:

To all of the people that don't have a si/di unit...don't pay any attention to post #33.thats just a joke.That picture that Don posted is a really good example of how well these units work and also shows that even with all of the information that's being displayed, there still has to be some interpretation of what's being displayed. These units , even as advanced as they are, still can only display the ping returns as distance, not acual location.its really great that Dons, describing what he's seeing also.:ThumbsUp
