Thanks everyone should read!!!
There are some counties in Missouri that allow open carry. Every year my Dad and Uncles and I float and fish the Eleven Point River in southern Missouri. We have sidearms holstered on our hips not because we feel threatened by anyone, but because open carry is allowed in this county. It should be allowed in the whole country (IMO). I carry a pistol over 90% of the time. I almost feel naked when it is not on me.
I understand completely! I have my carry conceal, and carry almost constantly as well. I just think someone may try something not knowing I was carrying and I would have to use it. If it were on my side in plain site, "I think" it would never have to be used. One would think no one wud try to rob a guy with a gun on their hip. But then again, I work the ER and its suprising how crazy some people are. I wonder how some survive from day to day.
Thanks... a lot of talk about open carry in Texas. Have seen a few rallies with long rifles/AR15s here in Austin lately. With Austin being a liberal bastion in Texas, a lot of Austinites get their underwear in a wad. I'm ok with that.. :).

i prefer the element of surprise , i dont want the bad guy to know im carrying, i think more folks might get shot in the back if the bad guy knows what their up against
for those of you who have never done it, when you take a life your life is changed forever and mostly not in a good way. Unless you are completely numb you will spend the rest of your life replaying your actions in your mind and wondering what you could have done differently. You will never be the same.
I'm a CC member and believe in open carry
There is a quick mart in Batesville, where the owner carries a pistol on his hip at all times and in plain sight. I actually feel safer there than otherwise. It's not uncommon for me to think, when in a quick mart, that it's potentially an easy target for robbery and I usually have a little bit of heightened alertness while there. I think a visible weapon is about as good as it gets to deter a robbery, usually by an idiot who suddenly becomes a little wiser when he sees it.
I might also mention that I'm pretty sure you can't count on Wikipedia to be absolutely correct so I wouldn't count on what it says as fact. However, I do think it's good information and worthy of anyone's consideration who carries a weapon in any form, especially when they cross state lines, to know what other states laws could be.
We sell firearms in Memphis via our small gunshop and a great archery range where I shoot archery as well. Everyone that has a permit to carry or works there is asked to carry to deter thrives , and to this day ,it has worked,,,, No robberies yet! Tillman and Broad is no place I'd awake my dog at night either....
It should be required , every law abiding citizen own atleast 1 gun. Crime would be lower. Home invasions will be common in some areas if the guns are banned!
South Carolina use to be a open carry state, The brilliant politicians figured there didnt need to be open carry after the CC law was passed, Coincidentally you did NOT need a permit and pay to open carry........
We have a Gun shop in our area that makes Shotgun chokes (Rob Roberts Gun works) (World known) each employee carries a gun open in the shop!! I asked Rob why? Each employee carries a Glock on his hip wide open!! He said (Rob) you would not believe how many times we have been robbed!! Used to all ways be on my mind (EMT/First Res-ponder) What would I do in the situation where we were confronted with a person with a weapon on drugs or whatever!! What would We do how would we handle the situation! Its a very hard split second decision to make and you never, never forget!! The only thing that stops a Bad guy with a gun!! is a Good guy with a Gun!!!!
I never leave home without mine
My :twocents is with open carry the bandit knows you have it while there's is concealed in there coat pocket so by the time you get to it he or she has shot you to rob you. The surprise of them not knowing what is coming is the ultimate surprise. Being able to see what you have on your side just gives them a better plan of attack. Guns are great and people are crazy sounds like Billy Curington's new song.
All good points. When i took my carry conceal, the instructor was all for carry conceal, but wanted open carry. His thinking was.... If i am within 10 feet of you, and then i run right at you, there is no way you can get your concealed weapon out with a fight first. Now if you shoot a man that you have already beaten, u are now the criminal. I can see either side. He demonstarted it with my class mates. He is right. Its hard to get drawn.
Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
It is funny how the majority of the pro gun carry people do not have the manhood to have served in the military. Well it is America and I did fight (Vietnam 68-70) for you to have that right, the majority of you did not.
Thanks for your service Don. We that didn't serve, appreciate the courage and sacrifice it took to preserve Everyone's freedom. It's a shame that in today's world, we're all in a battle to protect our familys and ourselves from the riff raff, and Dope Heads that will kill you for a $10.00 rock. Social Security and free money has only subsidized the drug business.
Welcome Home!!!! [emoji19]
They are ruining the USA can't pray in schools the nativity scene can't go there, you can't put cross on that building but crime is running rampant and there is no boundries for crime it's everywhere and the crooks are better armed than the person with the ccw. The laws are for the criminals not the good law abiding person and to be a policeman in this day and age my heart goes out to them for what they have to put up with. Respect your piece and lock it up so accidents don't happen in or around children. I rather be judged by twelve then be murdered by one. CCW just my :twocents
The problem with the 12 is that they cherry pick them so they can have the upper hand in a law suit. It's like a chess match for both the prosecution and the defense to get the Right jurors for their cases. They should just pick 12 at random. Still better than being killed by 1 tho.
In Vietnam we would say "It is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
I prefer to carry the Mac 10...Saves time and really gets the job done so I can get back to Fishing. biggrin
I have worked in a gun shop/ shooting range. It makes you feel allot better being armed. You get a weird feeling about some folks when they come in. Mostly they see that your armed they are gone. It was usually a young group of thugs, would come through the door and spread out through the show room. That scene played out in one instance when a police officer friend just happened to be in the bathroom. They look like they had seen a snake when he came out.
I have my CC permit and I do carry. I don't think it matters whether it is in plain view on your hip or hidden on your belt behind you, you won't draw it quick enough if you don't practice with it. Not just shooting, but drawing it. No one wants to encounter a violent person in which you ultimately have to end that person's life, but as many have said, I will protect my family and myself. I can live with that!
View points change with circumstances, no doubt about that. Looking down the barrel of a pistol will change your views on a lot of things.
Chardonsdad, I thank you for your service to this fine country! I hope to shake your hand some day and tell you "Thank You" in person!!
