I have family with a place a few miles away. We are thinking of pulling the boat down from KC and would like to catch the spawn. Any suggestions for when I should schedule some vacation time and recommend guide for that lake?

Depends on when winter is over, but sometimes even early Feb I have done great fishing spawnng fish. By March there shouldn't be any reason they would not have started in and that is all your looking for. Here if I find them longlining in water from say 71/2' to about 9' of water depth, I know it's on!
That is how I know it's time!
of course I don't know that lake well personally as I Have never fished it. I will see about a guide on that lake for you in a few days from some guys I know fish that area. I have fished Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn since they opened in th late 1960's and just don't see the need to go any place else, but I will go like to Arkansas for a break and hire a good guide!
Thanks for the report. If you are ever up around Truman give me a call and I will take you out.
Never hit Ray yet but is on my short list of lakes to go to. Hope you find a good place and guide.

Would love to know more about this lake, really would like to know more about all the lakes anywhere near DFW. My sons both live there and maybe some time I can get them to go with me to some of the lakes around there. I know nothing about any of them except what you hear and read about Fork and bass. So any knowledge anyone can lay on me sure would be appreciated.
Feel free to PM me with this if you don't want it on here. Or email is good too.... [email protected]

sent all pm's as requested when requested so feel free if you need the piles ask.
I would very much like the coordinates of the brush piles. Thank you!
I'd appreciate the brush pile locations from coe also, new to the area.

buck creek area up around the bridges and down towards the lake in the timber along the channel probably has some fish in it right now
the spawn may be going on in there quite well right now or even past prime .....
have not heard much about there recently ....used to go there quite a bit back when
the corp piles always seem to hold a few out on the main lake as well
I would love the COE brushpile data.
a map is available somewhere or you might just google it , i have been told its not very accurate and the piles are close but not on the exact coordinates . there is an old boy named ernest paty in these parts that sometimes gives away the exact coords though
Tanx Ketchn.
I've noticed you seem to be the local crappie master on here and the tx crappie & bream... site.
I've also deduced you and I are not far apart (FTW area).
Grapevine will be my home lake, if the water gets back to normal and if the fish settle back into their normal patterns. Meanwhile, I'll hunt bridgeport, mineral wells sp, grandbury, and ray roberts.
My experience on Benbrook is southern end-rocky creek area, 25 yrs ago with an ex spouse involved (bad memories, and she got my boat) .
Anyway, one of these days, I expect that we'll meet in person on water.
Oh, how did you train your turtle to point out crappie?
I have a dachshund that is worthless at finding fish ...
Sgt Crabby. ..
well I don't know about being a crappie master but I do chase them pretty often with my buds . I used to do Grapevine when I was a younger fella back in the day but don't go up that way much anymore .
but yes we may very well come across one another . Bridgeport is so over full I don't go up there , Mineral wells state park got muddy last year and stayed that way ....REAL muddy ....Ray Roberts was my thing a few years ago but I don't go up that way much anymore either .
the Brook can be very good for large fish if you know the patterns and when not to go ...
Granbury has been very muddy lately as well ...
I hit several other lakes though so drop me a pm sometime ...have a great day
The map I provide WITH coordinates I got directly from Ernest Paty. I posted earlier about this.
Ernest was selling his "newest" GPS coord's not too long ago and a few people paid hard cash for them. I doubt anyone will give you the new coord's unless you pay.
Heck is there any lakes left that are not all muddied up. I know Toledo Bend has been off color ever since the big flood and the gates got open big time. All that water coming through here is just not normal. Always have some, but nothing like the last 2 years and this year the lake has been way full way early and the sun never fired up the Hydrilla which also helps clean the water. It stinks, but is what it is! Only guys catching here are fishing minnows and as of 3 weeks ago they were already fishing tops in water depth of 20' to 25'. Use to be I could still catch crappie in the Hydrilla all the way into the first week of June, but it's been a while since that was the case!

Brush pile map and coordinates?
These look like the same piles listed in the Navonics app. I really need to make it up there to ray bob.
Yep.
Hey Skip, I’m new to the area as well, would you be able to send me the COE brush pile list as well? My email is [email protected]. Thanks!
Sent from my iPhone using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
Skip, try Lake Lavon. It is a great crappie lake. Towakani is also good, as is Cedar Creek. I stay up at Amon Carter lake in Bowie as well as Ray Roberts most of the time. I am originally from LA, so I spent a lot of time on Toledo. Especially at the chicken coops. Good luck!

Do you still have the accurate COE brush pile locations for Ray Roberts Lake?
Wonder how many people are on top of those brush piles! haha. I originally did not see this as an old post and kept seeing people asking for the locations. I figured Saturday there would be 20 boats in one location. Then I realized it was an older post. funny picture though!
I still have the same ones I have sent out for a few years now. Just send me an email at... [email protected]
