I have older mister twister and love it!!!
The Rapala is the worst I've had. The mister twister is good as well as the American Angler. At the present, I am using a mister twister that I have had for several years. It is stored in an American Angler box:biggrin
american angler
I use Mister Twister......only replaced blades once and have cleaned many a fish.
Theyre all about the same really. You could say that one doesnt stand out as being the chief apparent of available production.
Bought two Piranhas last year, they both quit cutting. I sent them back & they sent me two more and one of them has quit. Not happy happy!!!
My American Angler has lasted the longest of all the knives I have had and is still going. And I love the shark blades.
I have a heavy duty Rapala that I got last year and it seems ok, but I don't catch a lot of fish as some guys
American Angler is one of the best but before then I just got the cheap ones
I have the rapala 12/120 had for 3-4 years Cleaned 1000's of fish crappies bass walleye catfish , use it to cut pork loins off the smoker. Never had a problem. I have the cordless one too, my boys have the corded 120 volt only version . I had an angler hated it , used it one summer tossed it. So it's a ford vs Chevy thing lol
I have had both the blades w rhe repala suck....they snag the skin if you try to get close....but if yiu shove hard my old mister twister blades will go in there. ..
i clean lots of fish and ive gone through 4 rapala in the last 2 years, had and american angler for about 10 tears before it finally quit on me, the Rapala terrible , next time i buy it will only be american angler !
I have cleaned a bunch, I mean a bunch of fish with a cheap old Rival electric carving knife at work. It worked great for over 5 years. It recently wore out and I replaced it with a Mr. twister salt water. So far so good. I like I a lot.
I am Old Fashion still using the good ole manual fillet knife. I like to clean in the house so it makes less mess for me to leave the guts in the carcus. Takes me about 45 mins to completely fillet out 20 and never fails me. If I was going to use one tho my vote would be with American Angler.
Older AAs if you find em get em.
My rival kitchen knife is about 20 years old and on its last leg needs blades but cant find any its better than any other i have found. thanks for reply
I have an American Angler. I got it in 2000 and it's the only one I've ever had and it still works great. I've cut up deer, elk, and still use it to clean fish.
Jackie looks just like that one but wont work
The American Angler is not only made in USA it Arkansas made !!!
Welllllll to be honest, I took my mister twister this out this fall and cut 2 cords of oak firewood and a load of cross ties for the rail road. The neighbor had been to Africa and had brought back a whole bull elephant that needed cleaning so when his Rapala burnt out, we hooked my mister twister up on 220v and finished filleting out the back straps on that big buggar. Just as we finished a commercial fisherman went by with a barge load of Gar and 40-80 lb buffalo so I thought we would help him out and ended up cleaning at least 3/4ths of the barge load. I then went over to the lake and caught two 8 inch slabs and that knife cleaned them like it came out of the package new. Now if you have a problem with this story, just let me know, and I'll tell it another way:crazy:
Cant go wrong with American Angler....I will never own a Rapala again
American Angler. Mine is over 20 years old and still going strong. Had to replace cord couple of years ago. If I had to replace it would be with the new American Angler for 75.00 - 80.00 dollars.
What he said! I had an amreican angler for years when it finally died. I have tried probably all brands since because I either couldnt find another american angler, or couldnt afford one. So I tried a rapala, no power. Tried mister twister (regular), no power. Then went with mister twister salt water edition, More power, but not enuf. Tried hamiltyon beach turkey carver, it was better than all since the american angler, but wrist still got sore, even If I was filleting small fish. So I saw how much money I had spent trying to fill my needs, so I finally broke down and bought another american angler, and it was JUST how I'd remembered it!!!! So much power it just smoothly glides through a fish. Even big cats! Im not a "rep" for anyone. Just telling you what I have personally experienced. Take it with a grain of salt if ya want, but I know what I will be using.
Attachment 184161The best filet knife is one without the cord, just keep it sharp
Finally remembered what went out on my American Angler and it was the switch. I probably end up cleaning twice as many fish as most, cause it takes more small ones to make a mess.:biggrin
This trip was solo, 12 hours when I quit, 50 bream, 10 cats, 10 crappie. I was after the triple crown in one trip, but couldn't get on any crappie bite at all until late in the day and I was too beat to continue. 4am till 4pm. Cleaned them all in 17 minutes:Rofl with the Mr. Twister...or I may have still had the American Angler then...I don't remember. I was able to eat the entire cooler of fillets at one sitting.
Have 3 of them and clean a lot of Fish!! All kinds from catfish to hybrid stripers!!When folks fish with us have to lend them one of ours!!Attachment 184205Attachment 184206Attachment 184207Attachment 184208Attachment 184209Attachment 184210Attachment 184211!!! Still going!!Have one don't know how old it is at least 10 years just replace the plug on it still using the one my father has no telling how many fish and deer he has sliced up with it!!
Those fish sure are perty!
AA gets my vote. had a 12volt for i couldn't tell ya how many years. too bad they don't make the 12volt any more so i'm using a 110 and i carry a 440watt power inverter in my truck in case i need it somewhere :)
Well thanks for all the input so far it's the AA or Mister Twister and by RCC's story the twister is going to be hard to beat. I also think the older knifes are much better than the new ones from the reviews i have read. the twister is 30 or 40 bucks the AA is 110 to 150 bucks
I've been using the Rapala Ion cordless knife and I really like it. I can clean a limit on a charge and I got an extra battery. Sure is convenient.
Go to a restaurant supply and buy one. Got one over 10 Yrs old. Super heavy duty.
If you go with cheaper models get two and switch often to keep them from getting too hot. Should be fine, but I'd get the AA.
I loved my AA used it for years. Thought that I had lost one that I had and I was tickled when I found it in the storage building. My first electric knife was a rapala 12/120 it just did not have the speed and it burnt out pretty quick. When my last AA finally broke down I went out looking for another like it and could not find one so I picked up a cheap Academy brand. It has amazingly worked really well for the last year and it was cheap. The only problem I had with it is that they come with a little safety button on the trigger, but I took a toothpick and wedged it down and added a little super glue and fixed that problem. So in my opinion AA first, but I would not overlook the Academy brand it was $20 so you could by 4 or 5 of them compared to one AA.
I got an aa for Christmas back in 2000. I have cleaned thousands of fish with it. It still works but this spring the blades have started slipping when it gets hot. Picked up a cheap one from academy on hot deal for 10 bucks. Have yet to try it. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another aa.
I have the Mister Twister Saltwater model (the blue one with metal gears). It ain't all that.
