Hey guys my wife got me a really awesome Christmas present this year! I got a Lowrance HDS 10 GEN2 with structure scan. I was wondering if anybody had any good suggestions on mounting the structure scan transducer on the boat. Thanks J.C.

Not much help here I use Huminbird. But you is one lucky guy to get a sonar like that for Christmas.
Tell me about it Dave!! I didn't know if I should kill her for spending that much or just hugg her because I would have never gotten that one. So.....I just hugged her! LOL . I think I will love it , I just want to make sure I got everything installed right. I figured that there would be some one on here that has experience with these. Cause looks like I got alot to learn with this baby!!!
You need to post this on the fishing electronics forum here. Just go out to the main forums and you will see it. Lots of tech savy folks there too.CF
POST PIC OF BACK OF BOAT,DO IT HAVE A STEP UP AT DRAIN PLUG?
Genec, ill have to take a pic tomorrow but its a Carolina Skiff DLV ELITE SERIES. Doesnt really step up. I saw a video on you tube that you shouldnt put it on the left side of the boat motor.Does it matter if its on the left or right of the boat motor?
THE 2D CAN SHOOT THRU HULL OF FIBERGLASS,DO YOU HAVE JACK PLATE? IF NOT I WOULD GET A TRANSDUCER MOUNTING PLATE THAT IS WIDE ENOUGH SO THAT I COULD MOVE DUCER A FEW TIMES AND NOT PUT EXTRA HOLES IN BOAT.I PERFER RIGHT SIDE BUT LEFT IS OK IF YOU STAY AWAY FROM MOTOR FOR AS PROP TURNS IT LIFT UP CAVITATION A LITTLE AS PROP TURN CICULAR. IF IN DOUBT MOUNT ON BOARD AND CLAMP TO BOAT AND MOVE AROUND TO GET BEST SPOT
Great info genec! Thanks

Genec here is a couple of pics of the back of my boat. What do you think? the existing transducer is 19 inches from the center of my boat or motor.
I have the HDS 8 and love it. I have a bass tracker so the hull is totally different than yours.
Check this thread for some screenshots and some setting suggestions.

You will need two transducers if you plan to run 2D, DI and SI. (at least I do on my HDS 7 touchscreen) I bought one of the mounting boards from Cabela'a because I figured I would end up having to move something or another before I got it right. The SI transducer is really huge so I mounted it above the bottom line of the boat to protect it a little. I plan on using the 2D and DI when I am running at any speed and the SI at slower speeds when the transducer would be in the water. I did mount mine on the right side to avoid any cavitation issues with the prop.
I just got the SI transducer installed and have not had it on the water yet so I am anxious to try it out.
Thanks fishman78
SeaRay did you mount the si transducer lower than the 2d transducer. To keep from picking up the other.?
I originally had an Elite 7 and I mounted the transducer on the left side, not realizing it could have some interference from the OB prop. So far I have not noticed a problem with it. I have the SI mounted on the right side and I plan to run it and see how they work. I read somewhere on here that the 2 needed to be fairly close to each other for overlay data to work, so I don't know if that is a problem or not.
specle, by it being a fiberglass boat,I would mount 2d where it shot thru hull and as sea ray said ,I would raise up the si -di ducer, that way in si the 2d ducer will not block si view,it should go about where old ducer is but a little higher,u are going to take off old ducer to make sure it does not cause interference when it is on? as already said ,get a mounting board
Yes Genec I am going to take the old transducer off as it does not fit but it does come with both the si and the regular transducer and i plan on getting a mounting board for it. ive just never done a thru hull mount with the transducer. Does it read well like that and if it got any gas on it with it being in the bilge would it affect it? My micron filter is back there and when I change it I sometimes spill some. SeaRay I also read where they should be mounted close together and I saw a video on YouTube and the guy mounted them side by side with the SI slightly lower than the other transducer. but the boat that he was mounting them on had a deeper v than what mine is and he could position the other transducer in the water keeping the Si out of the water and it still riding lower so it would clear the obstruction of the other transducer. thanks guys for all the help on these questions. I just want to make sure I get this baby mounted right so I can get out of it all that it has to offer!!
AS TO INSIDE HULL ,LAY IT INSIDE AND PUT WEIGHT ON IT AND PUT A LITTLE WATER IN BACK THEN TRY IT AND IF NEED ,MOVE IT. YES GAS CAN MESS IT UP
Thanks Genec!
