anytime you can get to the lake is a good time. Seriously. :)
the tide/moon charts show primary and secondary feeding times for each day. They are usually pretty close.
My experience is similar to the Chief--put a minnow or jig out in front of a crappie and most times they will bite. To me, the most important thing is to locate the fish. What's the old saying, 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water. I've looked at those charts before, but my main concern is always about finding fish, and especially the slab size fish.
My understanding the charts are the results of diaries kept by outdoor enthusiasts and biologists over the years.
Fishing is like sex....if you can ..go for it
Like everyone said if you can find them they will bite.
Most of the huge feeding frenzies I experience are at dusk and dawn. I kind of enjoy the the tough days when you really have to work to make them eat. But yeah, you have to be on the fish to know if they are eating or not.
I think the solunar tables are based on sun position and moon phase. I'm not sure how accurate they are but if its slow I do try to make sure I'm at a good place and fishing during the peak times.
You can do yourselves (and your freezers) a favor by checking the charts, or you can ignore them and miss out on an easy way to increase your fishing fun! The charts are also good for all wildlife. Whether I'm deer hunting or crappie fishing, I'm gonna be in the best spot I know of at the time of peak feeding represented by the charts and most of the time I will be successful.
Ive caught them at all different times of the day. Ive had some awesome days even when the sun and moon chart were saying that the times that I was catching them was supposed to be very poor. I think they have feeding times just like we do BUT finding them is a plus. I agree with Banjo! Just get on the water. The more you go the more youll learn to find them. Before you know it youll be catching a limit every time. Good Luck on finding them. J.C.
