Is there a certain type or brand float that you all like to use in a slip float rig??
Yeah ... free ones :Rofl
But, seriously .... I find them floating in the lake, hanging in trees, or washed up on the bank of most lakes I fish ... in all sizes & styles & brands. Which one I use depends on nothing more than which one is the closest at hand. I rarely use them when using a jig, and already know which ones will float the size sinker I use (#4 Water Gremlin removable split shot @ 1/8oz).
If I'm experiencing light bites, or a lot of wind, I may add a bb size (or more) sinker above my #4 split shot ... in order to sink the float down to where only the top 1/4 - 1/2" of the body is above the surface. This not only makes the float easier for the fish to pull under, but also doesn't catch the wind as much as when the float is only halfway submerged.
I'm mostly using, and referring to, styrofoam floats ... and I use them with & without the stems. I will use the balsa wood floats, now & then, and usually with a lighter weight sinker. Thill would be my choice in balsa floats, and Plastilite or Comal for styrofoam floats.

Try these. They last forever. Still using the first batch of eight I got over two years ago.
The Everlasting Slip Bobber - the world's finest slip bobber!
Thank you men!
I use a regular float but only the bottom "hook " on the float. Put a bead above it. Turn the floater hook around so it doesn't go into the slot. It will settle very fast. I like it because it lets it sink much faster than other slip float setups and I can remove floater easily. The floater will set normal in the water. You might get a twist or two but you'll get the hang of it.
I use Thill about 90% of the time. Love them.
Thill
My vote is Thill also
theysaid I also use the cheapo red/white snap on bobbers sometimes, but Thill is my favorite.
I like the balsom wood slip floats. Durable and last. Use with a stopper, the rubber ones are the best
Looks like I be buying some thills!!
What Size Everlasting Slip Bobber do you guys prefer??
My personal choice is size 2. It depends on the weight of your rig. I usually use 1/16 oz. jigs.
Which size Thill is the best for 1/16 oz jigs and minnows? Weighted or non weighted?
I've been looking for some sort of slip bobber or slip cork or anything that I can easily / quickly put on and take off of my line...never occurred to me to just use a regular bobber using just one eye hook. I have my 12 foot rod and I hate messing with setting it up when I want to slip bobber, vise versa when I want to just jig.
For the past year this has been my go to slip float rig setups. I prefer the Thill floats or the cigar shaped ones.

I would also recommend the Thills, but I use nothing but their wagglers for both fixed and slip float fishing.
I like the Mr. Crappie slip bobbers pretty well. They are really visible and hold up pretty well. Here's the link. Mr. Crappie slip bobber. Also use them with a good bobber stopper. I've caught many crappie with a slip bobber tight against cover.
new to this area Barren River Lake, but back in central IL we used all but like the weighted thrill the best.
Where in central ill? My home toooo but 30 years ago I slid into florida
I love the thills floats. The advantage to regular floats is easy take on/off and they really let the bait fall fast which is handy when fishing a little deeper than normal.
My apologies, bluegrass. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
