Sorry about this post, I am new at posting pictures. Forgot to line it up. Please forgive me!
Dawgg , i had a couple in my boat . If I can find em they is yours.
Never seen 'em before. Looks like they'd detect a light bite though. Let us know how well they work for ya.:)
Ice fishing guys use them a lot to detect light bites
the way the weather has been around hear == and these things are good for ice fishin
they should work fine on Wylie and Wateree if you pitch in a little rain with the cold :biggrin
I have used them, got some in my boat, they work, just use small jigs , 1/32 or smaller, good for vertical jigging when the bite is so light you can't feel it. It will show you them soft bites.
You wannna be an expert at detecting light bites.......... Get you some fiddler crabs and go vertical fishing around pilings for sheepshead! thats whats called an exercise in humility........I tell ya that!:Rofl
You are so right about that. I have and also fished for them in Lajes Field Azores. I also caught sheephead on salted chicken breast cut into chunks about 1 inch cubes. I used a popping cork with a piece of lead attached and fished it in the blue bubbled water in the ocean as it slapped up on the cliffs and rushed out. The waves would leave the bubbles in a cut in the volcanic rock and sheephead always hung out around these spots. I found this out by watching the locals and it was on after that. I don't know who introduced raw chicken to the sheephead but the locals there used it and it worked. It was cured by salting it down and refrigerating it 24 hours. It stayed on the hook pretty good. I guess if you can catch brim and catfish on hot dogs and bread anything could work!:fish
I reckon the chicken tastes like crustations to them...........or vice versarotfl
They work, but learning to read the line is a better way to go. Your line will tell you of a bite far better than watching one of them things. I used mine once and took it off and tossed in the tackle box.
I used to fish jigs many moons ago until I started using minnows for day and night trips. Over the years it was easier to go with minnows over jigs. I have started to fish some of Cutbaits jigs at night vertical slowly reeled up. I mean to tell you the thump is faster than my old brain and eyes. So I need all the help I can get. LOL If it don't work for me then I know what to do with them. I appreciate the inputs as always and will let you know if they work on the night side of fishing. Thanks and good fishing to everyone.
If you re not currently, might I suggest using a quality Hi-Viz line. I too suffer from visual impairment, and still feel better trusting the line.
Do try the indicator unit, you may enjoy it. I just felt like it cost me a couple of catchable fish, had I been line watching rather than looking at that little bead, would have been in the boat. Let us know how it works out for you. As for line I really like the Vicious Hi-Viz..it's inexpensive, and works really well. Even with my poor eyesight, I still easily fish #4 test. Hope this info is helpful.

Amen to that! Amazing how they can eat a fiddler crab and not show the bite at all. I always figure if you on't see a bite after 5 minutes you better check your bait 'cause it is probably gone.
Last Labor Day weekend Crappiekrazy and I went sheepshead fishing at Atlantic Beach NC. We got up at 4am to catch fiddlers at low tide. We got to out good spot and for some reason there were only a few crabs. We got what we could and after launching the boat we went around some bridge pilings and harvested some sea urchins. Trimmed the spines with scissors and hooked 'em thru the shell. Best sheepshead trip we ever had. Harder for the fish to get the urchin without evidence of a bite and mostly bigger fish. I'll never stoop to catch a crab again!

That is one fine sheepshead you got there..............I have heard of using urchins, but never tried just always stuck with china back fiddlers...
First time I went sheepshead fishing we took about 100 fiddlers by the time the tide made it's complete turn out we had no fiddlers and no sheepshead:banghead
Back then there was a guy in Hanahan you could stop by his house and buy a big cup full of fiddlers for 3 bucks................for 6 bucks you had all the fiddlers you thought you could use!
THIS is not my trick but use it a lot take a glass bead and run your line through it placing it between last two eyes on tip of rod. When a fish hits it will get your attention. Still can watch line if you like. Bead pops up and hits rod alerting you something is after your bait. Trust me this has put more fish in the boat for me
I like that Dwightparks will give it a try.
