I am not sure if I have ever seen the water as low as it has been the last few days. Does anyone know why they have the levels so low. I was hoping they would re mark the channels while they had the levels down but I have not seen a sign of that. So many strip running in the channels in some areas it is hard to fish. I could catch a thousand of them easy if I wanted to, not sure I have seen so many stripe at one time either.

We are supposed to get allot of rain in the next few days. The water has been lower this year then I remember as normal.
I know we are expecting rain but not enough for the water to be that low.
They had it real low about a month ago. I had to crawl up on the dock at Goose Pond from the casting deck of the boat. Usually I can just step up.
TVA drains the lake in the winter for 2 reasons so I was told by one of the workers about 5 or 6 years ago at Gville dam, one is in anticipation of the frontal rains that the cold waves usually bring causing 2 to 4 inches over a large area which can lead to some floodings when they have to open the flood gates, so they keep it low to catch more water before they have to unleash the gates .Number 2 reason is to get it low so when it gets cold it will kill a lot of the mill foil and hydrilla left floating on top of the water.Unfortunately this year Mother nature hasnt cooperated with them too much other than the first cold snaps in November but the water was high then.Also the rains have been going south of us and TVA hasnt figured it out yet so they kept running the turbines at 44000 all of November and half of December .This last weekend they only run them at 9000 cfs which dried up the river below the dam and they have been idling them down off and on thru the last 2 weeks because of no water between here and nickajack dam.The levels are the lowest i have seen them in the back water.Its rare to see the bridge pilings stilt parts under the bridges but they are about a foot out of water.I was hoping this rain even today and tonight would dump about 4 or 5 inches but its not going to happen.
I passed over Chickamunga this morning and saw stake bed, crappie condos out of the water. Two pontoon boats sitting on a mud flat about 20 feet from the water and piers with water well below their deepest pullings. Most places have 30 or 40 feet on bank showing.
wow,i thought our lakes here in middle tenn.(tims ford,normandy)were the only ones that experienced low water levels in the winter.thats why all the folks around tims ford lake has floating docks & boat houses.
Worst I saw was Lake Lanier over in Georgia. In late October it looked to be down 15 feet. The lake bed dropped off at a 45 degree angle. You could see whole lay down tree out of the water. I should have gotten some pictures.
one thing that helps is,you can see and found spots to fish when the water is back up to summer pool.
A hand held GPS would get you on all the good shollow water spots.
I use to live over at Tim's and they never draw Guntersville down nowhere near as much as they do Tim's and Normandy. This year is different than normal. They usually always draw it down some, but not usually like this. The way a lot of the lake is here though the areas showing are not necessarily places I saw that might hold crappie when the water goes back up, but I have not been out enough to look at a lot of the lake to tell where some good places might be.

Well so much for the low water HAHA the rain finally made it thru and above the big G so now the TVA gates at gvill dam are opening up this afternoon around 1 or 2 and they will be running 67000cfs by tomorrow instead of the 30000 to 40000cfs theyhad been.
