Hummm, hopefully Lowrance will be giving away Gen 2 touch's now, I see they have dropped in price, but hopefully they will drop even more. Dont You hate them promo videos, dude has 3 to 4 thousand in fish finders, if I didnt limit out with all that stuff I may take up drinking instead of crappie fishing!
Jeez.....I hate those videos where they think it's cool to change views every 1 1/2 seconds.
Looks like it is going to be a really nice unit though. I think the combo button / touch is the way to go.....and they are using less room for the buttons than the Onix......Will be interesting to see if they have solved the SI range issue.
Yea, like it's not much better than the gen 2
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has used the new Gen3 with Chirp. Is it a big improvement and worth the big price tag? Does Chirp paint a clear image when you are sitting dead in the water? I am about to double the value of my boat with a new big screen and I would really appreciate your input. I know what the promos say but what do the USERS say? Thank you guys.
Crappie ciller, from what I'm reading the Gen III will be out in March. I can't see how chirp will help sonar when sitting still, whatever is under the boat (if it's stationary) is still going to be a horizontal line across the screen.
There have been a few long list type posts with prices on Gen3 models so I assumed they were out there on the water barely. I must have misunderstood on chirp as well. My research is so sporadic due to our spotty Internet and time here in the Philippines. Home in a month so may wait until then to purchase with my hands on the unit.
Ahhhh, Christmas in the Philippines....shorts and short sleeve shirts....been there, done that:)
Our second Christmas here Bob. What brought you to the islands? Did my asawa riding in a carabao drawn wagon bring back fond memories?
I was there because that is where the US Navy decided to send me from time to time.........Did get in some sight seeing, but was never in a cart like yours.....At the time I was there the most prevalent hired transportation was a Jeepne.....If that's how you spell it.:)
When I first went overseas, we left California mid winter in our dress blues.....stopped in Alaska for fuel....then landed at Clark Air force base about 2 am to 85 degree temperatures. Had to get out of those wool blues as quick as possible.
I have a gen 1 (8) and a gen 2 (8) with point 1
you may convince me to get a touch for the bow (for the downscan) at some time but honestly, what else do i need to put me on fish? Don't need to run anything with my cell phone. have radar WITH my cell phone...and think its great that i have them etherneted together. Now for me to upgrade i would take a hit on getting rid of what I have and then dish out a couple thousand dollars, probably more, to get the same size machine that I currently run.
Lowrance has a select few that will upgrade simply because they have to have the latest and BEST that is available. My hats off to them if they can afford it and JUSTIFY it. I can't and don't really want to. But....i think its great that Lowrance keeps pushing the envelope in the area of R&D.
Insofar as chirp...from what I have read it will benefit deep water fisherman more than inland waters. Its all about target separation. Now, quick question...how many of you need better target separation when you have seen a school of fish with downscan?
